service items for "F" service

My "F" service came up around 52K miles on my '03 E320. You can step through the FSS menu to see the Service Item numbers and check your manual. In short, this is what mine said:

Service 2: Replace Air cleaners
Service 3: Replace combo filter -- this would come up as Service 4 on a E500 to replace the dust filter.
Service 5: Replace fuel filter
Possibly Service 6: Replace activated charcoal filter E320's don't have this, only 4 zone E500 climate systems)
Service 9: check body, chassis, replace brake fluid
Service 10: clean popup roof rails (I have this) -- Service 11 is for same stuff on panoramic roof -- probably on E500
Service 12: change oil/filter
Service 14: testing the batteries and a whole bunch of stuff under the hood, chassis, interior function tests, checking brakes (pads & rotors), drive train (flex discs), etc.

Come to think about it, "F" is a good letter for this service interval since if you go to the dealer for this work, your wallet will get "F#*%ed".

By the way, I just came from the dealer who did a recall job for me and I heard them quote someone $275 for "A" service which I think is just an oil change.

Good luck

Regards,
paul...

Thanks for the info, Paul! Luckily, since I have an '03, my service is still covered under warranty

Your "F" service is still covered?

tbone,
I don't understand -- do you have an extended warranty? "F" service kicks in after about 50K miles which is outside the factory warranty.

But I think extended warranty doesn't cover maintenance. For 2003 and 2004, the maintenance is cover by free maintenance plan. Maintenance plan and warranty are 2 separate things.

Well, either way, I'm still covered. I purchased in '03.

TBone,
If it turns out that the dealer tells you NO, could you please post the cost -- I'm curious. Thanks

The different letter services don't come up alphabetically and in no fixed times or mileage. I know the original free maintenance was for 4 years but was there a mileage limit like the warranty?

I just checked and the free maintenance period is four years or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

I called the dealership, and you guys are correct. The free maintenance expires after 4/50,000. The extended warranty does not cover maintenance.

I will begin calling different dealerships to get quotes. What are you guys paying for your "F" service? My dealership told me it'd be around $600 out the door.

Tbone,
If you can get all the stuff done that I outlined earlier then you're getting a great deal for $600. Since "F" rough corresponse to approx 6 labor hrs,how much is your dealer charging for labor? Just buying the fuel filter from my [overpriced] dealer would be $200!! Just for the heck of it, you should ask them what they charge for "A" service (oil/filter change).

Regards,
paul....

Don't know how much F service is.....

TBone,

I did most of the F service myself, and only need to replace the fuel filter, inspect the flex discs, and lube the sunroof -- I even changed out the spark plugs because I didn't want to deal with seized up plugs at 100K miles. I'm planning on finishing the work in another month, when it gets warmer here. I live in a Boston MA suburb and bought the car from Flagship Motors in Lynnfield MA. Just to give you an idea, I once ask the parts guy how much was that brake pad measuring tool for the E320, and he quoted me $110!! As I said before, I heard the dealer qoute someone $275 for "A" service (Service 12 -- oil/filter change).

Regards,
Paul...
