V8 emblems...

I've gotten many complements about these emblems. I just wanted to know you guys think of them...

Now it's time for some "Type-R" badges and clear taillights.

I don't like them either. It's not a clean look.

You could get some "32-valve" or "dohc" or other stickers from a Toyota or something to complete the look ... .

"E500" on the deck lid is enough. Some folks even remove that.

I've heard of the "320" being removed since the 6 & 8 cyl. cars look the same at a quick glance... but why remove the "500"? If you were that "modest" to begin with, you coulda bought a 320 & added the 500's included appearance upgrades that you wanted.

...as far as the V8 badging.. I wouldnt rebadge my car, but its a mod not unlike changing out the grille for the "star grille" & putting the flat hood badge on the hood. Anybody looking at the car KNOWS it didn't come that way. If you like it, enjoy it. There are no rules, just enjoy! ...assuming, of course the car is a V8!

No "complement" here, either. It looks like you're ripping off the "V8 Kompressor" emblems from an E55. Ripping off the AMG look, if you don't have an AMG, is a no-no in my book.

BTW, what's the deal with people always posing their cars in front of their McMansions? Think that we won't be impressed enough with your car, and so you have to add in the house?

I live by the golden rule of MB ownership... KEEP IT STOCK.. Any additional badges only make it look like a kid owns the car. JMHO... no go on and take'em off, and get some cleaner wax to remove any sticky residue!

Some people like the "Q" ship look. Guy next to you doesn't know if he's up against a 6 or an 8 --why tell him?

In some parts of the world it's not so adviseable to "advertise" how rich you are, which is another reason to remove badges entirely.

I believe there are even official Mercedes "option" codes for deletion of badging. Same for BMWs.

There are indeed other approaches than ostentation.

The things you can learn in forums!

Emblems aren't my cup of tea either but damn you don't have to be a hater..maybe he's proud of his accomplishments with his house and his Mercedes, theres no crime in that..

Maybe he just doesn't want to get run over in the street. You have to step back to get a picture of the whole car. With your eyes in the viewfinder, you cant see traffic.

...and why aren't MB's considered Mc Luxury cars by you? There are bigger, badder, Luxury cars then an E class. There are several thousand tons of E classes around too, you know. He took a picture of his car on his driveway Dude. Don't be so critical... it smacks of jealousy for some reason.

Lets just keep it about cars and not get "snarky".

Well, he didn't do anything wrong. Please cut him some slack. It's got a V8 under the hood and that's not disputed. Just like the SL and CL600 have V12 emblems on the fenders, it might be over kill, but it's not like he's trying to deceive someone. I've seen people with SL600 and they put V12 BiTurbo badges from the 65s on their fenders. Again, they do have that engine, so they're entitled to it in my opinion.

OK, S-Clusive and Barry, when two reasonable people tag me for being rude, you are probably right and I am probably wrong. So, consider the "McMansion" comment withdrawn. I can rationalize having an E-Class Mercedes because of the safety of it, but I have a real problem with McMansions on environmenal grounds. That's just me, though, so I'll try to keep my opinions to myself and hew to my usual opinon that people can spend their money on whatever turns them on.

At least his are legit, just not for me though.

Thanks for the positive feedback guys. I think it's just like the grilles... some people like em but most people don't. I happen to like to emblems. Someone at work not knowing that I put them on myself told me that he liked how the emblems flowed with the lines of the car. But it's whatever you prefer. About the house... I just happened to take the pictures in my driveway where I always park the car, at the bottom of the walkway. I was not trying to show off. I just so happened to be the angle that the pictures were taken at. But thanks.

Jimbo, never knew you had that in you!

as for DWP, don't mind him, he's just ticked off cause in California you can't get much more than a 1600sf bungalow w/ tiny two car garage for $2M these days!

(I know, I moved from there mainly for that reason!)

Finally, as for badges.... yes, they are like grills and hood ornaments, and people will have their opinions I suppose. I for one just think a classy car like an MB is not the right kind of car for that.. A Mustang GT, or Chevy Caprice SS, maybe... but not the E class.

I live in a 1600 SF house with a two-car garage, in California. I don't think that it's worth $2M, but if you do, I'll be glad to take your $2M for it.

Well, ok... maybe it was a bit of an exaggeration, but I am told my old family home did just recently re-sell in Burlingame, CA for $2.1M, and it was only 2400sf with a 2 car garage.. Brady Bunch kitchen appliances, countertops, and floors.. It was hardly even a "middle class" house with I lived there in the early 80's...

Aren't you in the Bay Area btw?

Average home prices differ drastically in Burlingame and Sacramento. Sacramento housing prices still lag behind Bay Area housing prices.

Well I didn't think it was THAT bad looking. I thought it looked alright especially since its the same type of lettering. I can understand what you guys are saying about making it look cheap or w/e but it really doesn't look bad in person. But that's just my opinion and we are all entitled to our own. But I have to say, I have created quite the little thread here that I do enjoy reading. It's funny how it went from comments about the emblems to house prices in Cali.

... and all because I'm an off-topic wisea** at times. Hey, it's your car. If you like how it looks, that's all that counts. It's not like you're polluting the environment or putting anyone else in danger when you put badges on your car.
