I find that the 7 speed is Ambient Temperature sensitive, and also sensitive to its internal operating temperature as far as 1-2 & 2-1 shifts. The cooler, the more abrupt the shift.

Call me crazy, but thats my experience.

Do you mean at cooler outside temperatures or cooler engine temperature when starting from cold?

Just wanna make everyone aware that this thread is almost 2 years old if you've just been skimming the replies and not actually reading them.

Both. Cold wintertime outside temps & even my 2007 7 speed is a little clunky sometimes. (The '04 was downright harsh in cold weather). The 1st shift or 2 when the transmission innards are cold (year round) and the tranny is not as smooth as it is even 90 seconds later.

I leave home early in the morning, at 6am, when temperatures have recently been in the 20's and a few days ago in the teens; I have not noticed any malfunction or gear issues. During the first 90 seconds, I have to stop at two stop signs, making it three starts from stop and I have not experienced any clunkyness (none that I have noticed). I know I drive the diesel but that should not make a difference. I will try and observe carefully.

I didn’t realize that this was a way old post.

However, I notice that the new Lexus 460s are (or were) having
a jerking problem with their 8 speeds.

Mine was the first year of the 7G and the hesistation was very noticeable at a crawl. Three dealers said there is nothing they can do as that's the way it was designed. I would reset the ECU whenever it started to get worse.
