3-5-7 ==> this allows you to tweak the software flavor/version your Command APS is running. I have read a few places where others have messed up their units by switching it to a different car model than what they have. If you have a w211 select only w211_us or w211_ecu... If you are lucky enough to own an AMG, this will also allow you to select the AMG-logo version for your Command APS.
I have a US version of the 2003 E320 (W211) with the stock Command Unit & Nav. After using the 5-3-7 menu to change my settings to 211-euro for BOTH keyboard and the unit I am now able to play Video DVDs

I can see major, major problems with the information that is in that link:
1) What cars are factory fitted with COMAND-APS ?
The new A class (W169), B Class (W245), C Class (W203) from roughly April 2004, CLK (W209) from roughly June 2004, E Class (W211), CLS (W219), GL (X164), new M Class (W164), R Class, SL Class from roughly June 2005, S class (W220) from MY2004, CL class from MY2004 and the Smart ForFour. The latest S (W221) and forthcoming CL class have newer systems which are not covered by this document.
Firstly there are TWO European DVD COMAND systems. One is nowhere near as good as the other.
Here are a few that have the restricted version: R-class, CLK, SLK, C, A, ML, and B there may be others??? They have a type of DVD system that does NOT have the same features or options as the E-class. I can see unwary upgraders buying the wrong system and wondering what is going wrong. The easy way of knowing what system you have is simply the location of the actual navigation DVD. The E-class system will have a dedicated navigation player in the boot.
In Europe the 211 DVD system was released in 2003, NOT June 2004. Our vehicle is a January 2004 build which has DVD Navigation.
Mp3's on DVD. Maximum folders = 255 Maximum files per folder = 255. I only have 1200 Mp3's all of which fit easily onto one DVD. (Installed, and working)
Hell Ona Yama - ha - ha
Everyone that has activated DVD in motion swear it is only for their children and they NEVER watch the films........ Dad, dad look at that!! Dad your not watching......
Bye for now,
John
A nice sunny morning in Torquay

Best suggestion is switch your COMMAND to the 211_ECU (just the console not the keyboard) and insert a DVD or CD into the single slot at the top and see what logos are displayed on the screen. If you see the DVD logo as well as the CD logo your player should work after you change the keyboard setting over to 211_ECU. NOTE: This does not enable the video in motion, it just enables you to play DVDs...
The DVD capabilities are a function of the COMAND headunit (HU), not the NAV unit.
The NAV unit, if available, is located in the trunk (boot) and is DVD based.
The COMAND, on the other hand, is in the cabin and, for some US models, is not equipped with a DVD reader, but rather, a CD reader instead.
In either case, by switching the COMAND to 211ECU for both keyboard and model, you will have MP3 capabilities, but not necessarily DVD functionality. Again, unless your COMAND has a DVD in it.

Didn't realise it was so easy!
Thanks!

The 211_ECE feature is not available as I recall in '05MY and newer ('06). As you discovered, you can change the keyboard to 211_ECE, but this will not allow DVD playback. You may notice that the successful post cited here pertain to '03 & '04 owners. Like you, I have tried changing my COMAND to no avail.

211's have a seperate Nav player, you can play DVD video's? and still have the Nav DVD installed in the appropriate drive.

I guess the NAV update solves these issues.
Anyway, the following info was given to me by a local MB dealer:
Please note that if you update your COMAND unit with the MB service disk (2005+) you will lose access to the backdoor menu. Also, your current settings will be reset to factory default. I.e, it won't be possible to disable the Driver Distraction options anymore (not event using the MB Star Diagnosis)
Please keep this in mind when servicing your COMAND at an MB dealer.
Anyway this warning specifically refers to the MB service disk update and not the NAV update as you've mentioned. Maybe they’re the same thing ???

There is apparently on SOME NavUpdate Disks that are released from time to time, some sort of software update which may or may not be compatible with the version software your AGW/Audio System is currently running under. WHY MB software people put patches on these disks is unknown to me... rather than a "patch" they should be loading a full software version upgrade on them, since patches are written specifically for a particular version of a software program... and obviously we are each not running the same software version on any program within these cars, so these "patches" corrupt the software they were supposed to patch..
