Actually, the WHITE STAR Insert is based off another genuine MB key fob, available at the dealer 3 years ago (but no more). The fob has to be the right size to fit the standard star base. Believe me, I've tried several star styles, and settled on the WHITE STAR design as offered.

White Star Flat Badge Installed

Hey everyone just thought I'd post a couple of pics of my flat badge. Install took 5 minutes. Looks great!

WHITE STAR Flat Badge Maintenance (if needed)

To keep your WHITE STAR Flat Badge nice and shiny white, a handful of members have written me to recommend the following products. You may already have these mag wheel cleaners in your car wash kit. A tin is about $4-$5 at your local auto store.

The Mothers product works especially well. Just put a dollup on the white star inlays, let sit for a couple minutes then wipe off. Minimal rubbing needed.

Minimize contact with the blue laurel wreath areas… these are in blue LACQUER, so the cleaners should not mar them. But I’d steer clear just to be sure.

I’ve been testing to find the right products, but thanks to members for these leads. Of course, this only applies to the few of you with Badges showing any wear... the vast majority are seeing none...

I think it would be a bit redundant on my 08 E550, it already has a flat badge on the grill. If that wasn't there, I would be all over it.

I have received some PMs from members complaining they are having difficulty finding this thread. Until the Search Function is tweaked into something useful, I think I will make this one a STICKY for a while...

Badge #291 just found a home. If anyone wants one of the 8 remaining badges numbered under 300, you should contact me asap. Fair warning.

I ordered one as I did not like the look of the tri-star sticking up off the hood. Ordered on Monday and recevied it on Wednesday. Took 5 minutes for complete removal and installation. Excellent quality and incredible change to the hoodline!!!!!! HIGHLY RECCOMEND!!!!!!

Here are some pics, please excuse the dirty car, but I could not wait to install the White Star!

I ordered one for my MY09 E350. The product is very good, and it took 15 seconds to install. Quick delivery, thanks DFWDude.

But I'm not sure I want that "double star" look now that the new grilles have a star on them. It looks perfectly fine from a distance, but up close looking down at it, it looks a bit too redundant. Kind of weird.

But I like it better than an upright star and, like others have mentioned, maybe I'll just get a replacement grille w/o a star someday.

I'll try it for a while. It's always easy to de-install and install. Maybe when I'm in an upright star mood, I'll replace the original....

But I think the key chain fob is a different size (smaller) than what appears on that hood...
This man knows what he is talking about. My father owned a 1972 SL450 and it graced the "phony" MB tri-star. I think its a better look on the sportier Benz models, but regardless it exudes class. Looked great on the old convertible!

Your car looks wonderful. I agree with the redundancy issue, but you can always replace the stock grill with a mesh grill or whatever else floats your boat. If anyone calls you out on it you just have to say, "Its a Benz. Does it even matter?"

It it possible to remove the star from the grille? Has anyone looked behind the grille to see how it's attached?

That's already been discussed on this thread. Unfortunately the star is embedded in the grill and so there is an indentation on the grill; removing it would leave a very obvious blank spot.

MB-BOB, I now see you were part of that section of the thread. Sorry.

But, to help answer your question, it would leave a bald spot on the grill since the star fits in a flat indentation on the grill. Tomorrow I'll look behind the grill to see how its attached, but even if it comes off easily it will leave an ugly spot, I'm afraid.

Slim Pickens is a friend of mine who talked me into producing my WHITE STAR Flat Badge for others. Until then, I was quite content to be the only person on the planet with one.

He has seen my work in person, so he shares the passion like 308+ others. Have you seen my work in person? Looks great on an S-Class...

My bad. I forgot I had asked this question earlier. Second sign you're getting older. LOL!

I've taken inventory... I have enough materials remaining to make a grand total of 350 WHITE STAR Flat Badges. As this is written there are 310 in circulation.

This leaves 40 left to be created and sold before...

terminating production.

If you are interested in this product, I encourage you to click on my Siggy below and send me an e-mail for pricing and availability updates.

A bump for DFWdude. I like the White Star Flat Badge so much that I went out and bought a new OEM style grill (without the MB star embedded in it) for my '09 E350. Now I don't have that "double star" look. btw, everyone comments on how nice and subtle the car looks. No bling! I'm even tempted to buy another star as a spare in case something happens to this one. They will be a collector's item someday, I think.

Does a sealant need to be applied to the badge when installing so water doesn't leak under the hood?

No. There is no sealant under the standard upright star, so there is no need to do that with any replacement.
