someone just told me that the E320 has a GM engine, which is the same engine on the ML which all means crappy.

Can anyone convince me to keep this car?

WOW. The 3.2Liter V6 3 valves per cylinder engine aka E320, ML320, C320 is not a GM engine. It is a mercedes engine. Tell that ****er to research his information before he opens his mouth.

Thanks for the clarification, coming from someone with as many post as you do. I'm keeping the car.

If you'd excuse me, I have to go that idiot.

I think he's just saying that so I can sell him my car.

Surely dont fall for it. I had a 2001 E320 which had the same engine as the 2003-2005 E320 engine. And those engines are bulletproof. They keep on going just like the energizer bunny.

Or overhead cams for that matter.

No, the 3.8 V6 dates to the mid 1960s.

The pathetic 2.8/3.4 to the time of the Citation (the car).

The 4.3 is just a cutoff smallblock, born in 1955.

Boat anchors all.

All of that aside... Why would GM sell its "technology" to a competitor? GM only sells/swaps with wholly or partially GM owned companies.

On the other hand, why would MB possibly NEED to buy an engine from GM? They've been making engines for a century, and for most of that time have been regarded as the world's finest manufacturer. That's like someone telling you to stay away from a "less expensive" Rolex because the movements in the "lower end" Rolexes have movements in them that are made by TIMEX.

Whoever told you the engine story is such an ill informed moron that it defies comprehension. Stay far away from them whenever you require automotive information.

It sounds like you are looking for an excuse to dump the car. If you drove the car and liked the engine then what difference does it make. If someone told me that I would say, so what, I love the car and the engine is great no matter who makes it. However, as pointed out above it is an MB engine.

Please don't accuse nor judge me. I've own and driven more cars than ANY average person in a 5 year time.

It does not take a simple test drive nor owning a vehicle for 6 month or a year to know it's reliability and what not.

I have a Range Rover that has a nice aluminum V8 that originally appeared in Buicks and Oldsmobiles in '61-'63. GM sold it to Rover.

The iron V6 that replaced that V8 (in Buicks only) was temporarily dropped from GM and tooling sold to AMC which used it in Jeeps. GM bought it back and it continues as the obiquitous 3.8.

Wonder why a lot of the members on the Benz forums are so rude. Especially in the E forums. Was expecting more mature responses.

You're driving a nice classy car, at least pretend like you have some class instead of going to insult other people. Maybe you know a little more about Benz than a lot of people out there, but there are definitely things that others know a lot more than you do. Feels like I'm posting in ricerockets dot com.

Do you actually think about what you read? Now, if I was suggesting that mercedes uses GM engines and I'm rude for that. Ok fine, I'm rude, if you take it that personal as if you are the president of Mercedes Benz.

someone just told me that the E320 has a GM engine
Do you speak a foreign language?

Try this link, copy and paste that quote and select your language.

here is some hard facts for you if you're up to reading. It's hard not to see why some mistaken (or not) think that Mercedes uses domestic parts vice versa.

Thank you dannieboiz for blowing this whole thing open. “Cherry ” a known GM subsidiary in China manufactured the new MB engine for the 350. Likewise, the current MB E320 CDI is actually manufactured by Tecumseh, yes the well-known lawn mower manufacturer. I’ve seen the markings on my own vehicle.

OK everyone, can anyone say “troll”?
