Intermittent A/C Problem anyone?
I have a 04 E500. Once last week and again today after my car had been sitting closed up on a warm day, I started my car to find the HVAC didn't work. The MAX COOL came on for about 5 seconds then shut down completely. No air whatsoever. The MAX COOL indicator was lit as was the fan speed indicator showing max. It was totally locked up for approx. 5 minutes when all of a sudden it started to work again w/o any trouble.
What's going on here? Anyone have this problem?

Same problem and also during winter when I turned on the front defroster. Replaced blower motor twice, second time last August. Went through last winter without the problem recurring so maybe it is finally fixed. Service manager said second replacement motor was "improved" version but who knows.

I had the exact same problem for over a year. It happens whenever you put or the system goes into the highest fan setting such as the defrost mode, or max cool... it runs for 5 seconds then quits. The only way to get it going again is to shut the system off for 2 minutes or so, then press auto.
It is a KNOWN problem and they have the cure for it NOW. They will replace a blower controller which is located somewhere under the right side of the dash. My controller was replaced 2 different times in an effort to solve the problem. I guess the 1st replacement controller had the same defect. The 2nd time it was replaced they also did the battery module recall which shuts off "energy consumers" due to an erroneous low voltage reading.
Just be sure to tell them it randomly happens when the system goes into the highest fan speed. (Which it will whenever you go into Defrost or Max Cool)
But there is a cure. I havent had the problem for almost a year. Get it done & enjoy the summer.

Interesting. The same thing happened to me three times last week. Twice I restarted the car and it came back on normally. The third time I shut off the HVAC for about 10 seconds and then it came on normally.
