Can I ask for a Euro version instead?

Have a appointment for the dealer to look at my CD player tomorrow, it will not load (the one slot on the front) if it needs to be replaced can I ask them to replace it for the euro version instead?

BTW: it's a 06 E350 w/ 300 miles on the clock.

you don't list your location but I'm going to assume that you are in the U.S.A...and if that is the case the answer is no...well the answer is "yes" you can ask them...but thier answer will be "no"

I agree with chenry.

However, keep in mind: there answer would likely be "no", but mostly because they are idiots (and idiots only do as they're told, and sometimes not even that much).

You could try providing them with a part number and pursuading them to order that part instead (read as: slipping them a $50), but as chenry said, your answer is likely to be "no".

Oh! And by CD Player, I take it you mean the CD unit attached to the COMAND; and by EURO version, I presume you mean the EURO COMAND headunit, right? Otherwise, I wouldn't see an advantage of one over the other.

I did have the Euro navigation unit as mine was a late 2003 replacement. I got a CD stuck (in the single slot) a couple weeks ago and took it in to have it removed. They replaced the entire unit. (Much to my dismay...)

I started playing with it and first found that it was not a Euro model and second, there were at least 100 stored locations - mostly So. California. I called and was told they have a program where if anything is wrong, they replace it with a "refurbished" model - which, of course, is fully guarenteed. I was not happy, but as my old one had already been shipped out there was not much I could do.

Last Friday I headed to the beach house for a few days. On Saturday I found that the whole navigation/radio system was dead, but the CDs in the changer still played. It's at the shop now, I assume receving yet another "refurbished" head unit.

I could have lived with the stuck CD in my Euro Navigation - could have gotten by with the changer. Wish I had known in advance...

I would doubt very much that your original unit had a EURO COMAND. Unless you special ordered it from a third party, such as MBenzNL; otherwise, you probably just had an early US COMAND.

For additional information regarding the differences between the two COMANDS and how to identify each one, refer to MBenzNL's site: http://www.mbenznl.com/products/w211comands.shtml

Happy reading!

[snip]
I see the difference now. I thought because I had DVD In Motion that it was automatically a EURO COMAND. I miss the English lady's voice on being provided directions even more than the DVD In Motion!

If you were able to play DVD movies while driving and had an english ladys voice, you definately had the euro command....

Actually as it is an 06, and under warranty, MB will not reimburse the dealer for a non U.S. version player. As far as being an "idiot" only an "idiot" would put a high dollar part into a car for free.
Remember that there are a few contributors on here that are employed by dealers and freely give thier knowledge, so please watch the name calling.

Well stated. Point taken.

I retract the idiot comment, and hereby apologize to anyone who may have been offended by it.

Hey, no problem.....Remember we as owners who also work at dealers would love to find a way around some of MB's rules as well. I am still working on a way to get myself a Euro unit.
Peace,
Rob
