A6 -- any one has experience ?

The A6 and e320 are very similiar - similiar interior & dimension, engine sizes, handling, weight etc...., and its 15K less than e350 ( 37 MSRP)...

any body have any experience with Audi..?

I know this is MB e forum, but just curious to hear an honest comparison opinion...as the A6 is very popular here in westchester NY, and its outside style , IMO, looks good.

I had an A6 wagon some years ago. It was a pretty nice car. I went from a fairly new Audi to a used W124 wagon, and I did not regret it. The Audi did not feel or drive with that "solid" feeling of MB. Its interior was not as nice. Yes, it is less $$, but for me, it was a matter of you get what you pay for.

was '03 E320 - now - '04 S4
I went from M-B ( '03 E320) to Audi ('04 S4) and have not had a moment of regret. The lion's share of the problems I had with the W211 I attribute to the fact that I had a very early '03. Oodles of little things (mostly electrical) that drove me nuts.

In retrospect the other major factor was the fact that I was driving the wrong M-B. I think I would have been much happier in a C55 than the E320.

The Audi has been reliable and *way* more entertaining to drive. How can you *not* enjoy 340hp and a 6 speed MT. The interior quality of the Audi IMO is better as well. No squeaks or rattles - unlike my W211.

The only thing I dislike about the Audi is the incredibly bad fuel economy and the fact that it is probably 500 pounds too heavy. Other than that - it's been fantastic. My next door neighbor has a 4.2 liter A6. Loves it as well. Super reliable. The A6 is a good complement to his Boxster - just like my S4 complements my S2000.

The Audi dealer experience has been great as well - instead of the mixed bag of Enterprise rental cars that the M-B dealer got me - I have been in for service twice and they always make sure that I get a new Audi as a loaner.

Another thing I like about the Audi is that it doesn't have the label issues that a M-B or Lexus or BMW might have. I make a little more $$$ than my customers and I don't want to really *look* like I am. Most folks have no clue about what the S4 is - to them it's just a garden variety A4. I like it that way.

I'd recommend you try one and see what you think. You can always make a switch back to M-B or BMW or Lexus etc... later.

I looked at one but didn't drive it. Found the styling to be boring and didn't want the first year of a new model. Fit and finish of the interior was probaby a touch better than the Mercedes. Most of the well-equipped A6 3.2 sedans I saw weren't any more than $10K less than the E350, if not $5K. I've never owned an Audi but I do like their products and will probably consider one more seriously the next time around.

Of course A6 is front-wheel drive and e320 is rear wheel drive.

That's a BIG difference.

Although some A6's are front wheel drive, most I've seen are AWD (Quattro).

I had a lease on a '98 A8. Very nice car. Steering is not as "tight" as BMW or Mercedes (especially true in the new A6, which to me feels overboosted), and the Tiptronic transmission has some significant lag to it.

The new A6 is a nice car. Excellent interior, very nice AWD system, all around nice car. Not as sporty a feel, and I wouldn't necessaroily call the E-class "sporty" (more towards luxury), and not quite as luxurious. The car doesn't feel quite as solid on the road, but it's a fine line.

Best you can do is drive one for more than a 10-15 minute test drive.
