car losing power

mercedes e220 cdi -
This is a real good car but its only been 3 month - has done about 45000
miles .....I am the second owner - the car is 3 years old ...
I'm having problems with the car in that it doe not pick up speed above 40 mph. even when pressing the accelareator full down the car just doesnt go --- also I can hear as if the air is leaking .....
I have had it seen by 2 garages - one says it could be the joint between the
exhaust - the seal is broken , the other is not sure but he thinks it may be the exhaust .........................

Not sure what to do - Is it a problem that someone can throw light on ....
Please ????????

take it to a dealership and have them look at it, the problem is more than likely the EGR valve

It could be a number of things. It could be the turbocharger itself (which is expensive to replace) or it could also be a punctured turbo hose (hence the leaking air). Have you tried to reset the car with the key?

Best regards

Take your key and lock your car. Then take your key and point it toward the infrared sensor (use the key just like a tv-remote controle) on your drivers side doorhandle (its a small sensor right next to the keyhole in the doorhandle) .
1. Press the unlocking button and keep it down until your windows, sunroof etc. starts to fold down.
2. Once they have unfolded, press the locking button and keep it down till the windows roll up etc.

Unlock your car and now it should be reset.

This could be a temporary solution but you must take your car to the garage since your exhaustflow/something else might be out of order. It seems that your car is currently running in "safety mode"

Best regards
Shah

I did that thanks - but it has not recified the problem ....

I am the second owner of this car (registered in 2002) -
The car is under warranty for 3 months from the car dealer -

When I approached the dealer - they are very uncoperative and are not
willing to repair ......What worries me is that a friend of mine has a VWGOLF
which has the same problem he has had his turbo replaced but is still faced with the same probelm ...

Last Tuesday the dealer said bring the car in on Thursday and we'll have it seen by our garage .......
Took the car in yesterday - morning - get a phone call in the evening from the dealer evening collect the car - when I went to collect the car I asked the dealer has it been reapired ??? and he said NO ! but you need to pay me
£x - For what I said ??? and he opens the bonnet and starts pointing that I have replaced this this etc.
I said I am not paying you for something which I do not know you have done -I dont know what the garage has done do I ????
The dealer is angry and takes the key out of my car - and says your not taking the car -

I am already talking about my rights to a legal person .......but what worries me is that I wonder if the car was faulty at the time of sale ????
Is it likely for a car of this model to start having problems in its 4th year -
The pickup of speed is very poor - its unvelievable ......
To me its not roadworthy -

Sorry to hear about the troubles you're going through. This dealer seems like an incompetant idiot and a hustler.
Have the car back and take it to an authorized mercedes-benz garage and make them do a test on it with their stardiagnosis tester computer. There is definately a very good chance that it will reveal what the problem is. The test has a fixed price here in Denmark (about 25£ +vat), Im sure prices don't differ that much in the UK.

Best regards
Shah

took it to another garage - who checked the car via computer -
The computer reveals NO faults - so the mechanic said it looks like a mechanical fault but they cannot isolate what the problem is ?????

Can anyone throw light ????

What do you mean by: "They are blocked"? First of all I dont believe that the E220 CDI has an catalytic converter (remember this is a diesel car and it normally has a "enviroment filter" and the new ones also have a particle filter). Secondly unlike the E270 / E320 CDI, the E220 CDI does not have a double exhaust system and therefore not two "catalyctic converters". Last, your car has a relatively low millage on it, so I dont understand how your catalytic converters can be broken? Mine has over 200.000km on it and I never had a problem with this.
Did you by any chance hit the car bottom on a speedbreaker or something? That could have caused it. I presume you took the car to a proper authorized garage, they should should have been able to tell you why your catalytics are blocked as it is very unusual for them to be broken.

I',m confused - The garage is reputable and have lots of Mercs and BMW's and other reputable cars that they deal with ....

When I put my hand near the exhaust the power of air is so low - as
against another old Merc that I have ....and compared to a friends old car too ......so it sounds that something is being blocked ......
not sure ....but the car is in the garage - hopefully fingers crossed ---
I'll keep you posted ....
