Interior odor?
Interior odor
P-B-94.20/05 MAY05 Odor in the interior
Model 211 VIN range: A445800 to A675800 and X117500 to X171600
Model 219 A000001 to A006000
If you experience an odor in the interior, strong oily (putty) or acidic (vinegar) or butyric acid (rancid butter) smell, the source may be the soundproofing mat on the interior side of the transmission tunnel. This odor will be present even with the engine and HVAC turned off and becomes more intense after being parked for an extended period of time with the windows and roof closed. The actual cause is not given however the soundproofing material and carpeting to affected areas need to be replaced.

The most probable cause is the burnt soundproofing mat due to the heat coming from the transmission tunnel. I had this odor problem with my W203, and it took three years for my dealer and me to identify this cause.
