Dead body in my trunk?!?!?

Thanks for the MP3 update info. Just got my car back from having new pads put on the rear, 4-wheel alignment and the MP3 updates. Alignment was off enough to kill my front tire in less then 1000 miles. Sucks but the cool news is that now the car can play MP3's and it drives without pulling all over the freeway.
The next test is to see if I can get the dead body in my trunk to disappear and see if this baby can play MP3's off a DVD (already checked the info under the engineering mode under the hardware info to confirm I had the DVD player in the main slot). Time to read up on what format to burn the DVD in... Hope one of us has some success on this noise from our suspension and that it's not just part of the design...
Time to start looking at the W221 before the E500 hits 50k miles in about a year from now. No fun to loose the full warranty as I hear the 100k mile warranty purchased through MB doesn’t cover as much as I was told initially. Cheers,
Ken

Hey Ken,
Glad to help. Finally I can give something back to this community. I've gotten a lot of help from here and it's about time I gave back.
As payment, you must now buy my wheels!

Good information! I always suspected the battery might be the problem, but when I checked it, it seemed to be secure. I still think it may have been the battery, but I'll never know....I sold the car.
Since putting on 19's and super low profile tires, the noise is more pronounced.
Just wondering if anyone was able to get theirs fixed.
I doubt it.
This is my one and only grip about this car.

JK I have heard it on my E as well... I think its something we have to live with
I was driveing my car today and turned off the music and when I drove over a bumb I too noticed the dead body I apprently have in my trunk. Before this thread I haven't noticed it; but now... gezzh. And what makes me feel even better is that it apperently can't be fixed.

I also have the body in trunk thump and need to solve this issue. I havn't torn into the rear suspension yet but soon will be. The car is out of warranty now and I dont want to start randomly swapping out parts to try and eliminate this problem. I know this is an older thread but hopefully by now some of you have solved this issue. Thanx in advance
I was told that the car is still exhibiting the dead body in trunk noise. They don't know what else it could be and they've opened a case with MB Tech Support. I'm picking the car up in an hour. When I get my receipt of work done, I'll post it so those of you who are seeing the same problem will have something for reference.
Frustration has set in....but I still can't help loving this car.
Can you be more specific on the bushing they replaced. I rolled around under the car pocking and proding, everything seemed tight.
Although nothing specific has been released, the same “type” problem may affect certain rear Airmatic shock absorbers or possibly, there is a problem with the upper rubber buffers (bumpers) to the body.
As a matter of reference the part numbers: rear Airmatic shocks (#20 in diagram) A2113262800, rubber buffer (#80) A2023260168, and rubber buffer (#150) A2103260468.

My problem is this:
On my 2004 E500 (Airmatic suspension) I'm hearing a thud or knocking type of sound from the rear suspension when going over some bumps. Hard to explain but let me try. If I go over a speed bump at say, 5-10 mph, your hear the normal sound from the tires compressing and you hear the suspension but a 1/2 of a second after the suspension decompresses to normal ride height, I hear and kinda feel a thud. Kind of if you had a dead body in the trunk and it hopped up in the air when you went over the bump and then landed back on the floor of the trunk. Or had a bowling ball back there and it hit the back of the rear seats after you slammed on the brakes.
I though it was my golf clubs back there so I took them out but I still noticed the noise. Ahh.......as I'm typing this, I just had an idea. Maybe the spare tire? Hmmmm, I'll go look.
Not sure If I've explained this well enough but if anyone has had any kind of experience like this in the past, I would love to know what the problem was. i've made a service appointment for Monday but I would like to go in with more info.
Anyway, thanks in advance for any help.

Good luck on that sale though!
