I spent the past few days reading about Mp3 capability there seems to be a mix of info.

put all of my music in seperate folders (and no sub-folders) burned using Nero 7.
I set it to burn ISO 9660 only as instruction.

I load this into my single slot CD and nothing.

IS there more to it than just burning a data CD?

Some 04's need to have a software upgrade on the COMAND for it to play MP3s.

I've tried and tried. I even had another user on the forum mail me a good burn. Still nothing. I'm 99% sure you need a software upgrade as replied in the previous post.

after this updates, what's gonna happen? I hear that you can't adjust the nav on the fly is that true?

You definately need a software upgrade. Just got mine done and picked it up today. Here's what you need to tell them perform:

Mine works great now, although I can't get into the hidden engineering mode anymore.

Where did you hear this? Why would they prevent the passenger from using the nav while the car was in motion?

Dont burn it in ISO format,ISO is used for data I only use ISO when I burn programs and what not. If you are using a burning program they should have an option for Music. I use toast titanium and it has an option for burning MP3 CDs and I assume your software should also.

Will this program change only work for the single CD slot or will it also work with the 6-CD changer?

How much more music can I put on a MP3 CD?

I can play MP3s in my head unit only, after the software update.


I can get about 100-125 songs on a 700MB CD.

Benz-O-Rama: Now that you have the update to your 04 the head unit should be able to read a music dvd as well. There are some folder limitations but I usually put 40-50 full albums in separate folders without any troubles. The only snag that I have encountered is that MP3s with embedded album covers or lyrics do not play reliably.

I was under the impression that 2004 US spec Comand units had CD-ROM drives, not DVD-ROM drives. I know that the replacement 2003 and very early 2004 Comand units were Euro spec and had DVD-ROMs but most of the 2004 are US spec w/ CD-ROM. I'll pop one in and see what happens

Um.....

Not quite sure that you need to do anything to the audio gateway. They just updgraded my Comand using the steps outlined in DTP 62.60/382. Once they did that, I was able to play MP3 in the single slot only. And it gave me a few more options in my nav too. Now I have a soft key named "Coordinates" which wasn't there before. This shows you your realtime Waypoint location. Oh, and I am no longer to get in the Engineering menu anymore.
