LOL, well that's cuz Mercedes have too sophicated system with the ESP, BAS, among other systems from making your axle drive losing it's grip. I haven't had a tire chirpped, but my old 96 E320 It chripped when I was hitting the brake too hard.

well that doesn't make any sense to me because a e55 can spin 2 blocks long with the traction off and I'm assuming its the same slip system on the 350's and 500's am i correct ?

Its big and Grey!
you need to be in dyno mode to break loose the tires. Your car will do it, but not even with the ESP off, will it do it.

So funny..

Yes, as other have said above, you need to go into Dyno mode and turn off the ESP, not just by hitting the button on the console.

ESP off, cut the wheel to one side (don't lock the steering pump), hit the gas and watch the tires smoke up!

straight line...not so much. Get the car going in circles is more of a chance happening

In my '98 E320 (V6), I can get the rear tires to chirp when I mash the gas from a stop. This works on most concrete surfaces.

Need an E430 or E500 to smoke the tires from a stop (assuming they can)...

An E500 most certainly can, even with the ESP on. I know this to be true because I tried it once, just to see how impressive the display was. It was very impressive indeed; sound, smoke and two parallel tire tracks. I'm too old to do that kind of thing on a regular basis, though.

Any rear drive with a decent motor does it. You may have been mashing the brake too much. Don't forget the MB system modulates front to rear as well, so here is how I do it when I am in the C230 loaner:

Mash the brake to the floor.
Start in on the gas. you'll feel the drivetrain tense up.
Slowly, loosen the brake, until the spinning is good.
Let go too soon and the tires grab. Let go too late and it won't happen.

Try it again. Couldn't be easier or worse for your car!!
