2007 MSRP lower than 2006 for V-8

My dealer called today with a pleasant surprise. The car I have on order is going to be considerably less than an equally equipped 2006. I was expecting a small increase. No build date announced for mine yet, though.

I noticed mbusa.com posted 07 CLS info, guess the E should follow shortly. The gas guzzler tax is gone for the 550 engine (CLS).

Do you have the 2.65/1 rear axle ratio in yours? It seems to me that it was somewhat lower in 2006 for the CLS. That could explain the gas guzzler tax disappearing.

Apparently the new engine is more efficient as well as 80 hp stronger.

Did the dealer disclose the actual base prices? Option prices have been out for some time.

MSRP to MSRP the answer is no. But when you take into consideration that equipment, which was optional last MY is now std, then the answer is yes.

MSRP is $175 less than last year, but optioned the way I ordered mine it is approximately $2500 less than last year. If you choose the sport package, which I did not, it is even more of a difference, since the '07 sport package is a no-charge option. The '06 sport package was $1275.

any idea what the e350 will be. assume about $50500 base plus premium package -
P1 - E350
-DVD Navigation
-SIRIUS Satellite Radio
-Hands-Free Communication System
-Heated Front Seats
-Power-Rear Window Sunshade
$2390.00 plus destination $750.00 = $ 53640.00????

compares to a 2006 car today with premium package at about $49500.00 (heavily discounted summer event)

better to wait for new one? or are my assumptions wrong?

Base E350 = $50550. Last year S&H was $775; not sure what'll it be for MY07. IAW with the brochure the hands free system requires the "Multi-handset or Bluetooth interface" and is an additional charge on top of the P1 pricing. In addition the brochure shows a higher price for the P1 and the P2 for the E550 than the E350.

45-60 days. I am treating myself for working 40 years.

It the same color combination as the 50th Anniversary SL550.

A little more info from Netstar about E class availability.

I know the E550 has standard Airmatic, but what about the E350? Which option package includes airmatic or is it a stand alone option? One last question, does the 07 still have an appearance package that includes airmatic?

Per my dealer, the MSRP for the E320 BlueTec has not yet been announced as the car will not be out until October.

Correction on my earlier statement - the destination and delivery charge of $775 is not included in the MSRP of $59,000.00 so there is an INCREASE of $600 over last years base price. The 2007 still costs less than the 2006, thanks to the pricing of the P1 and P2 packages, and the sunroof now being standard equipment.

With all the re-packaging of options, Mercedes should really see an even bigger sales increase from July onwards. The E-Class in particular is capable of posting some spectacular sales numbers if the prices are right.

The way MB does it may increase their profitability but IMHO opinion leaves the consumer spending more than they want at times.

For example:
1) You want BIX you will have to buy P2 containing Nav, Keyless Go, etc. = $4290/4740 for BIX if you don't want some of the other stuff
2) You want heated seats you will have to buy P1 = $2390/2840 for heated seats if you don't want some of the other stuff

So, there is a downside to MBs madness trying to emulate the japanese model setup.

True, but they're still a regular production car company at the end of the day so they can't just custom build every E-Class it would be too expensive. I remember when MB didn't have any "packages" at all, just an option "list". The cars were mightily expensive to build that way. They have to streamline the build process if they want to return to profitability.

I agree that the US might be their biggest single market but when you look at all the other ROW variations that streamlining argument doesn't really hold water. I can agree with packages, but when you take some very popular options and no longer make them available as stand alone, or that sirius radio is included with every P1. Now I know MB signed a contract with them but.....

In the end the cars will sell, but once again MB IMHO is not really listening to the customer.
