Essentially:
"Sensotronic Brake Control is the name given to an innovative electronically controlled brake system which will be fit to future passenger vehicles of the Stuttgart manufacturer. It shall perfect the art of deceleration.
Stuttgart. When a driver presses the brake pedal, his foot moves a piston, which is connected to the brake booster and master cylinder.
This means: The firmer the push, the higher the pressure in the brake lines, and the higher the force exerted by the brake pads onto the brake disc. A simple principle. With Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC) there will still be a brake pedal and master cylinder, but there are quite a few differences as well.
Because the driver's brake commands are processed by a computer, which also continuously receives sensor signals from each individual wheel and the steering system. From these data the optimal brake pressure is calculated for each wheel individually. And this, promises Mercedes, is advantageous, when braking with full force, when braking in curves or on slippery surfaces.
The driver doesn't feel any of this. The push onto the brake pedal feels like it always did. But starting from the master cylinder it doesn't continue hydraulically, but electronically. Sensors obtain the pressure and the speed, with which it builds up. This information is passed electrically to the controller, which then calculates the brake force - as described above. If the electricity fails and SBC stops working, the good old hydraulic will be used instead, and the car decelerated via the front wheels."

That's the thing...I don't understand why some many are upset with SBC and wants to get rid of it. I must admit that I love it!
It is very precise, easy to dose and very powerfull when it come to stopping the car.
It is like the rest of the car, tight.

As long as it works when you step on the pedal.
The fact of the matter is that (even though the failure rate is low) they HAVE failed more often than recent MB hydraulic systems, the recalls are costing MB too much money, and the bad attention in the press is not doing MB any good in the Quality/Reliability/Repair/Reputation departments. All they need is an accident where a family gets killed after all the SBC recalls & news, and even a mediocre Lawyer will drain their coffers of far too many Dollars/Euros.
It's a technology that was probably sent to the world market about 7 years too soon. Its the risk you take when being 1st with something new is in your company's DNA.
In years past, it wasn't so hard to be first. The Japanese weren't in the luxury car market yet, and the American Luxury car makers' bean counters' were always looking to deliver as few doodads as possible in order to keep the profit margin as high as possible. Today, the Japanese set the pace of what is included in the price of a luxury car, and try to cram all they can into a car at the price they want the car to be sold at.
..and that is what has got Manufacturers running perhaps faster than they should be.

I got my e550 ysterday and the car is nice ! Flint gray ash p2 pano wood wheel. The car drives much better than the 06 e. The brakes feel much better and do not make any of the noises that sbc make. The transmision seems to shift quicker and the up/down ****fs are very smooth. The steering is also improved - more connected with absolutely no vibration. I think there is less caster because the car tracks where you point it even if the road is off camber no fade at all. Power feels strong but I have not gone past 4000rpm yet Fit and finish is flawless [mb never had issues here] and there were no marks or scratches on the paint or glass during the journey from Germany.Time will tell but so far so good. I also drove 07 e350 and that car also drove much better

Congratulations matt55! I believe you may be the first person on the forum to take ownership of a 2007, and it sounds gorgeous. Photos, please, when you have time.
