2001 CLK320, 2003 E320
2003 e320 owners...
I recently purchased a 03 e320 and have noticed weird noises coming from the engine area when I open the front doors. This is before I even put in the key. I hear relay clicking sounds and sometimes an air compressor like sound for 10 seconds.... Is this normal?? Any info is greatly appreciated.

Do you have the Sport PKG? If so, you have Airmatic suspension and the compressor sound would be the suspension adjusting itself. It does this sometimes right after you shut the car off or when you unlock the car.

My '05 CDI made lots of sounds when the doors were opened. I always thought it was the SBC waking up and getting ready.

I also have the '03 E320. It is the SBC brakes pressureizing the system. Its totally normal

I have the 03 E500 and those noises have always occurred. FWIW- I have both SBC and the Sport Pkg/Airmatic

The car makes all sorts of unusual sounds I've never heard anywhere else!lol I honestly don't even notice any more!

03 E320 -wife's car now; 07 Porsche Boxster S - my toy
Last week I replaced my garage door opener and had to reprogram the HomeLink button on my E320. I left the key in the ignition and in the "On" position, and left the passenger & driver's doors open so I could quickly jump back inside after hitting the "Learn" button on the Door opener -- the car made so many beeps, clicks and whines, I thought some Star Wars druid character was trapped under the dash!!

Angry Strange noise part II
I have a strange noise from the rear of the car while driving...
noticeable thumping sound. It almost sounds like the trunk cover for the spare tire but can't be certain. Just wondering if anyone else had similar experience...

That sound is the SBC system. Normal but annoying to say the least.
