Resale Value?

Does anyone know of a website that shows "Realworld" value of vehicles? I've tried KBB before when selling my Vette and Supra and they were way off. I want to see what my E500 is worth as I'm thinking of getting rid of it.

i use www.edmunds.com and check out TMV (True Market Value) feature which pretty accurately details the price of a car for private, dealer, or trade-in value. By the way, you got one heck of a collection of rides..

Although no site is perfect, I have found KBB to be pretty accurate in the past. I also second the recommendation for Edmunds and the TMV. Of course, when valuing trade in or resale values, it's often less accurate (IMO) on vehicles that are only 1-2 years old.

I just checked my 2005 pickup truck on Edmunds and it says the TMV is way higher than the dealer is asking for NEW 2006 trucks. True Market Value is way too high on every car I have checked, making it pretty useless, IMHO. revstriker makes a good point in the above post, however. Maybe it only works accurately for older cars.

The dealers themselves supposedly use Galves (www.galves.com) for pricing, not KBB. Galves pricing is not free, unlike KBB and Edmunds, but you can buy a limited-time subscription for a fairly reasonable price. Maybe this is another case where you get what you pay for ...

spend some time tracking vechiles for sale on cars.com and autotrader. even go so far to call people and check what reponse thay have had on their advert and if car is sold ask what it ACTUALY went for.
hope this helps....

Call your bank and ask for the loan value on your car and what they use for a pricing guide. It will be a conservative number but easy to add some points to it.

I think the problem is that some of these sites assume that you buy new vehicles close to retail and they depreciate from there. I too have seen 2005 vehicles with 15K miles being accessed what you can realistically get for a new 2006 with some negotiating. I would just look at what the asking price is for more recent model years and assume you will sell the car for about $4K less as the asking price usually has room for negotiation.

BTW for how much are you planing to sell your 2005 E500? Does it have 4Matic?

Dealers have 2 sets of books...

The books they crack open when you're trading in (they show low market values) and the books they crack open when you're buying (they show high market values).

Either way - between Edmunds / KBB you should be within a few thou of where you will probably end up.

Good luck!

Thanks guys for the recommendations. I'll check out all the websites and maybe test some of the dealers to see how much it's worth. I think also if the dealers have several used in stock, they usually pay far less for the trade in because they aren't willing to take another vehicle while it sits in inventory. If true, I would guess most W211 trade ins will be far less as the W211 is considered a higher production car for Mercedes.
