Brake caliper rust normal ?

Here on L.I. NY I've seen several E320 211 dealer cars, '03-'05, that have rust completely covering the calipers. The CarFax reports on them are clean indicating no flood damage, and the undercarraiges look fine. Salesman says this is normal, yet I have a '98 210 that still has all silver paint intact on all 4 calipers and not a bit of rust.

So, maybe from Buffalo/Albany or somewhere else where a lot of winter snow/salt combo is causing this? Comments welcome ! Thanks

calipers...

Are you talking about the calipers or rotors?

Its not unusual for rotors to get surface rust if you car hasn't been driven in a while. my car gets it just sitting in the driveway sometimes.

My guess is that the previous owners over did it with wheel cleaner or maybe the dealer used a bad combination of chemicals and steam cleaning when the cars were prepped for the lot.

The only unusual (for MB) issue that I've seen with rust in this area is rusted lug bolts on some years of W163.

Ok, thanks, I had a feeling it wasn't a result of "normal" rain water or that the caliper coating had changed with the 211.
