Anyone compare the 530xi sportwagon vs. E350 wagon?

I'm considering trading my 04 E500 for a wagon for more versatility with a child on the way at the end of the month. Anyone compare wagons (BMW, MB, Audi)? I'm kind of off the SUV's but if someone thinks I should go with an ML I'm all ears.

2004 E320, some others
We have an 04 E320 4-matic wagon and an 05 325xi wagon. I have never driven the new 5 series. Overall the 325xi is far more sporty and fun to drive than the E320, but being a bigger car the E320 is more comfortable or longer trips. I sat in a 530xi wagon at the auto show and it felt like it was about the same size as the E class wagon. I think the xDrive awd system in the BMW might be better, but don't know for sure. Overall I think the BMW looks worse both inside and out, but is probably more fun to drive. Perhaps you could get a Volvo V70R and an S2000?

E-class E300e Estate, Sprinter (stretched limo)
We looked at the 5 series estate but the looks were amajor turn off (personal taste), plus it felt so much smaller than the e-class.

I'm very bias though simply because I think the Mercedes-Benz estate is the best large estate car on the market. I just wish we could have a 420CDI estate, then I would be a very happy bunny.

I like the Volvo V70R and S60R - oh, and the AMG SL55 or SL65
I'm an AMG lover all the way... but I also think that the Volvo V70R is definitely worth a look in comparison to an E350. I always liked the BMW iT wagons, but the Bangle effect still remains a bit too much for the moment...

Cheers,

Rob

ML--and more like it--the R-class will have diesels in 2007.

BMW is still wimping out on bringing their diesels to the USA.

Passat

We just bought a 2007 Passat 3.6 4motion wagon and it is a fantastic car. It feels very solid, drives well, is fast (280hp), is just as big inside as the E320, and is a whole lot cheaper than the BMW, Mercedes, or Volvo. It has a ton of features that the higher end cars have, for a much lower price. You also may want to look into the Audi A6 wagon.
