HELP! Low pad warning...??

HELP!!! I just switched out my front rotors and pads and got no sbc errors. WHEW! But I am getting a low pad error on the MFD. I got porterfield pads and noticed unlike the oem, there is no hole for the sensor. My dad ended up putting hooking in the sensor somehow but I get this error. What does that hole in the pad do? Do I need to get new pads? Thank you.

My bet is with no hole for sensor you will get the warning. If you just plugged in the old sensor but not installed you still might get the warning

My suggestion

1) Ignore the warning,, given you have replace ALL pads on ALL 4 wheels

2) Install the sensors properly

3) Install new MB Factory brakes with the new Sensor

4) Go to your local dealer they will be glad to remove the brakes and install new Mecerdes parts.

I would go with #1 but the choice is yours. Jim

I pretty much had my mind set on #1 as well since I haven't lost brake functionality but it just bothers me a bit that if these are OEM replacement pads, there would be holes. Time to contact the manufacturer.

That's surprising that the Porterfield front pads didn't have holes for the sensors. The rear pads I bought from them a couple of months ago did have sensor holes. I would just try and plug in the old sensor (assuming it's not defective) and use a small cable tie to secure the sensor to the cable. Be careful how you tie things down because I believe that when the sensor is grounded, that's what signals the system that your pads are worn.

Good luck.

Paul...

Those holes are designed to put your wear sensor in it, and it's run a wire connecter located on the caliper. Since the sensor was disconnected, making the computer think the pads are not there or worn. Secondly if it was connected, it's probably dangling touching something metallic thinking the pads are worn down that the metal touch the sensor knowing that the pads are worn. I would suggest to contact the manufacture since they don't ahve holes, why aren't they if they are really OEM replacement otherwise you would need to buy MB pads.

My thoughts exactly. I have already emailed my reseller and the manufacturer to see if Porterfield R4S pads don't come with holes in them.

Another thing my dad didn't do was disconnect the SBC. He didn't go through the whole key in position 1, 2, lock, unlock disconnect the sbc and jack the care up routine.

SHould I be worried? No errors except the pad one and the brakes feel a lot better than what they were before.

monstaloc,

The only hassle is the pad error warning showing up. Your brakes should be working fine. Please post any info you get from the vendor/Porterfield as I will be replacing my front brakes soon -- sounds like I'll be drilling my own holes in the pads to allow the sensors to be installed -- what a hassle! Thanks.

paul...

If your Dad did not disconnet the SBC, how did he bypass the system without activating it? Curious to know if there is another way he did to bypass the SBC.
