I am not going to list the problems with my E-500, way to many. But I have one problem that the dealer just can't fix. Working on the same problem for well over a year. Is there any one I can contact at MB to see if I can get them to buy the car back? It is still under warranty for about another 30 days. any thoughts or suggestions???
You say that you have 30 days of warrenty left. Does that mean that the car is coming up on 4 years old? Think that most states require that the car be less than 1 year old but I'm not positive about that.
Good luck and sorry to hear that you're having so many problems with your E
They {MB DEALER} discussed this option last year {buy back} But thought they finally fixed the problem. The problem now is still occuring. I realize the one year deal but if the service dept. can't fix the problem, then what??
Oil sensor of some kind, the error message say quote"Engine Oil Level, Reduce engine oil." They finally told that it had to be two ounces low of oil. that my sensor was to sensitive. That running the car with two oucnes low of oil woulnd not hurt it. But the light keeps coming on same problem well over a year.
Eagle, I had the exact same problem - 2003 E500, got it in 2004 with 50K miles on it. Right as I was driving it out of the dealership this warning came. The car went back about 6,7 times and they finally fixed it, said it was the sensor. The oil level was fine and since the car can't make oil there is no danger something can go wrong (well, not really - the sensor could be bad and you could be low on oil and not get the warning I guess). In any case, it was just annoying and I am glad they fixed it. My car was under warranty at the time but I did ask out of curiosity how much it would have been to fix and they told me something around $800 - $900 (can't remember exactly). So you better get it fixed for free
A very minor problem and I doubt if MB would consider replacing the car for that. In addition the age of the car and the miles you have put on it would make it far less likely for replacement. Have them replace the sensor once more and if that does not work why not just overfill the oil by 2 to 3 oz and that will cure the problem and won't hurt a thing. No it should not happen but thats life.
When something happens, we cannot always take the easy way out by saying "that's life" or "#hit happens". If you ignore the issue and a oil leak develops some where, you would most likely not paying attention to the warning! When you are out of warranty with a serious engine damage, are you going to say "that's life"?
I didn't say that's life the poster above said, i simply cut and pasted his quote but it didn't appear as a quote like on other message boards. I agree with you it is a pityful example of poor service from a MB dealer. sad sad
Wow. I bought a 98 E320. I got a message about "overfilled" after my first service interval. I took it in the next day. I didn't see it for 36 days. They told me they needed to replace the crankcase and get a new one from Germany. I sure didn't like the loaner honda civic I got to tool around in. I never really knew what really happened. Needless to say, my next car was a Lexus. But 8 years later I'm back in the MB camp and a very happy camper, too. I just adore my E350. Lexus was boring and Infiniti too sporty. The E is the goldilocks for me - just right.

I doubt MBUSA will buy back the vehicle. However, you should get your area MBUSA Service & Parts Operations Manager (SPOM) involved as soon as possible to have the problem fixed once and for all. Not to mention, if anything related should happen out of warranty, you will be entitled to goodwill repairs at no out of pocket cost given repair documentation (i.e.: dealer’s invoice). Request that your dealer’s service manager/director put you in touch with the SPOM to rectify this matter.
To add credibility to your request mention P-B-18.40/29b JUL06 (Initial release 8/15/05) Leakage between Oil Level Sensor and Oil Pan. The sealing ring could have been damaged by the burr at the oil pan installation hole. The hole needs to be de-burred and the sealing ring needs to be replaced, part # A023 997 43 48 or A024 997 70 48.
thanks, good info that is the info I was looking for. location Russellville Alabama, located in north Alabama. Huntsville is the location of the dealer.

The dealership should be cooperative, if not let me know.

It does not have to be 1 year for a lemon. My lemon was 2002 and only now we just settled.
