Retrofit the new 07 mirrors

I'm thinking about retrofitting the mirrors from the 07 to my 03' as soon as the 07' hit the showroom. I want to look at the car in person and do some homework see if they are interchangable.

Premier in ABQ had one on lot (blue) a couple weekends ago.

Interesting idea, but must come painted, etc. and sounds expensive.

any additional benefits beside the styling?

Also, i still think the old model (silver) looks better than the new (black).

A little cleaner that it's all flushed... but that's me.

The new mirrors (manually) fold flat against the car, and they are said to be quieter due to better aerodynamics.

That is a judgement call, but I tend to agree with you.

The old mirrors fold flat, too, but it's an option not available in USA.

mbenznl installs it.

The old USA mirrors don't fold flat. The new ones do.

You can put the palm of your hand against the painted surface of the mirror housing and press against it so that the whole housing moves out of its proper position, and the glass mirror portion of the unit will now be pressed against the front door window glass instead of facing rearward. (The painted portion of the housing will now face away from the side window glass of the car, in effect allowing you to pull into a very narrow garage door, or park close to another car & still walk between them.)

So you mean you can't manually fold the mirrors on an E-Class?

The USA mirror will fold either way, to the front or back, but will spring back to the original position. This is supposed to allow for someone to hit the mirror without breaking it.

new mirrors also have more visablity in that spot where it attaches to the car. Doesn't seem like a big deal, but my current mirrors always seem to be in the way.

Normally when talking about folding mirrors on an E-class it's about folding them via the motor and the switch on the door.

Outside mirrors have been "breakaway" for decades.
