E-Class DVD/Nav Upgrade Info

Official MBUSA announcement:

"As you know, DVD Navigation will become available on the all-new E-Class in early Spring '03. The retail price of the system will be $2,125 and we are pleased to announce that it will be retrofittable to vehicles delivered between now and next Spring.

In consideration of the "non-usage" period between now and availability of the system next year, the retail price of $2,125 should be discounted by $500 for those customers who choose this option up front, but are taking delivery of their cars without the system. For your MBC lease customers choosing this option during this time, it can be written into their lease (using the discounted retail price of $1,625). MBC will lease new 2003 E-Class vehicles with full consideration of the DVD/NAV option ($2,125) factored into the residual. "

NAV E500

What about the labor cost of installing the nav on the prewired cars. I think the factory will do a better job. I personally don't like rework, so Iam going to wait.
What do you guys think?

Talked to salesman today and he said it is prewired for NAV and so it can be retrofitted to std system when the NAV is available.

At least, it is better than someone gets a CD based NAV now and becomes obsolete in a few months. You get things right the first time.

If the car comes pre-wired for the Nav, it shouldn't require much effort to do the swap (there is no rework being done, just switching one thing for another). I don't think dealers will charge much if anything for the install, since it would **** off most customers.

Anyway, I wouldn't wait around until Spring to get the car....get it and enjoy it. With the incentive MB is offering, its a no brainer.

BTW, the NAV has a Dynamic route option (along with shortest route, fastest route (I guess use highways when possible) and driver defined route options) that accesses traffic bulletins free of charge from RDS/TMC so it automatically avoids traffic jam / trouble spots in route calculation. In essence the new NAV is a smart system and gives E owners advantage over other road users.

My (Australian) dealer said today that cars produced from November will have the DVD system fitted in the factory so there will only be a few months of CD production, which will be retro fitted to DVD at no cost to the owner.

Anybody know if this goes for the new CLK's also? Seems a waste to pay for the CD based COMAND.

Relying on the saleperson's info? What are you talking about.......do you know anything about electronics? This is switching one head unit for another, the pre-wiring is done (so no mess).

Whatever, wait until Spring (that will leave one spot open so someone else can get their car early).

I don't either. Afterall, some of us are just illiterate, overpaid, Sales Monkeys who like to post the facts and leave the B. S. to those of you better informed. ...RAB

Re: E-Class DVD/Nav Upgrade Info

Help please. My dealer has looked at all the MB annoucements and can find nothing about this Nav system offer in his computer. Can anyone who has ordered the nav under this offer provide the specific promo offer number or other details so my dealer can track it down for us?

Bmms8, that is what I'm trying to find out with my dealer. I doubt that is correct however because that would mean they prewire every car for Nav. Maybe they do but it doesn't seem right. I'll let you know what my dealer finds out. He's working on now.

Yes! If you want to take advantage of their "We're sorry it's not ready yet" offer, it must be paid at the time of delivery. When the parts are made available early next year, MBUSA will pay the dealer to install them. ...RAB

this is not directed at anyone who works with mb, just a overall statement....i just think that they are making more money off of us then they would of....maybe they didnt make them in time because they know a lot more ppl would get it if they give back 500 dollars, thats just what i think.....i mean...i havent seen more than 2 e before with the nav! and down in sd and la jolla/del mar/rancho santa fe there are a whole lot of mbz..... and im always down there, but still..

I might speculate that E-Class drivers have a much better sense of direction than S & CL-Class but I'd just get myself in trouble with some MBW members. It's happened before.

In So. CA it's either "towards the mountains or towards the ocean". How much easier directions could that be? Right? ...RAB
