According to the article, the S450 was due in April of this year. It seems to have gotten lost along the way to North America. Perhaps it went solely to other world markets, or maybe Edmunds.com was just wrong.
I would be very surprised if M-B introduced a second non-AMG V8 to the E-Class in the U.S. MBUSA's consolidation of options packages and elimination of some options shows that they are proceeding in the opposite direction, towards a narrower range of variables within the E-Class.

That was the article that mentioned the S450. I did not notice how old it was, so perhaps you are correct. The comment about new 4matic was in:
