Was hoping the E550 would see an improvement here. Did it? Has anyone fixed this or come up with a solution? Fabric door seals seem sooooo stupid!

You would think that after four years somebody would come up with an aftermarket fix for M-B's mistake with the carpeted door sills - clear covers or something - but I haven't seen anything like that. The only "solution" seems to be, lather-rinse-repeat-lather-rinse-repeat-lather-rinse-repeat ad infinitum.

My 2001 C-Class came with ugly black rubber seals, and they were shot within 12 months. The dealer replaced them with the cloth (upgraded to all newer 2003+ cars) and they have held up well. A HUGE improvement.
I clean them with some Water (3 parts) and Simple Green (1 part). Use a soft bristle brush, rinse with water on a clean towel. Clean in an instant.

The Mister Clean Erasers work pretty good ro really bad spots, but I like Auto GLym Interior Shampoo for moderate dirt. It's expensive but works well. I have no really bad spots in over three years on my current light interior.
