Service G, what's done and how much cost?
Come November I will no longer get the free maintenance for my E (over 4 years). My G service is due in about 4K, at the rate I am driving, I won't be able to get the free service in November. I have two questions:
1. Will the dealer do it for me just before the free date is over even if the car is not due for another 2-3K?
2. If the dealer can't do it free, what's involved in G service and how much does it cost if you had it done at an independent shop?
Many thanks

1) Doubt it -- I heard others trying to do that and the dealer said no.
2) Step throught the FSS and see which service items are due for work -- then check out Konigstiger's sticky that tell you (for items 1 - 14) what is checked/replaced for each item. Also, the "G" service is an estimated 7 hrs of labor to complete. The FSS goes from "A" to "H", 1, 2, 3hrs, etc which serves as an indicator when you call for service and they know how much time to allocate to you. A good indy shop will be a little less money than the dealer for labor, but the parts will still be at list price.
When I say a "good" indy shop, I mean a shop who is familiar witht he later model MBs (i.e., W211).

If it's been one year since your last free service, MBUSA will pay for it. I've had it done twice on my 2004 at the one year mark and the FSS system mileage was still well below the recommended mileage for service.
BMW have also gone to one year intervals on free service.
Here is an email I received from my Mercedes Service Adviser regarding free service.
Sorry its taken so long to get back with you they will let us service the
car if its been 1 year since the last 1 was done or since the purchase date
of the car if its the first service. or 10,000 miles which ever comes first
