I can tell you for E350 100% city driving with A/C on 100% of the time. Getting 18.9 MPG(indicated by trip computer) seems low but in my ML I get 14.9-15 mpg but I have a lead foot.

In the 3000+ miles I have driven, most of it has been So. Cal. freeway commuting to work with average speeds in the 30s (or less). I almost always have the AC and ventilated seats on (both driver and passenger) and my average MPG so far is ~17.9 MPG. I get better on the weekends when I get to drive at more highway speeds.

Long-term average in town driving, a mix of city streets and freeway, is consistently around 18 mpg. That's with a light-footed driver, my wife. On long trips at legal speeds (65-70 mph) it's about 25 mph.

Measured mileage over 900 miles. Approx. 2/3 local (average speed about 25 mph) and 1/3 hwy (average speed 70mph+). 21.1 mpg over all. Measured a few highway tank fulls and got 25-28mpg.

I average 21MPG combined on the daily commute. However on trips to south Florida or Georgia, I have been able to attain 28MPG at 82MPH on cruise. Once the car goes above 82MPH the MPG goes down. That seems to be the break point for my car and the weight in it during the trips. My car does this pretty regularly. I have 73K on the odometer now.

I am like the others (also traveling highways in GA, FL, SC, NC!), I get an average of 21 mpg for daily driving (55 mile each commute each way) and 28 mpg for longer highway trips at around 75-80 mph. I have 42,000 miles on a 2005 E-500.

Those 3 valve, SOHC engines were designed for fuel economy. Its not surprising to hear they get 20+ no problem. I've seen several 3.5L V6's produced by the Japs that get similar milage, although they also make similar HP. What they don't get is the torque
