Keyless Go?????????

This is the last item that I need to decide on the weekend. I'm still not sure whether to go or not. I have read several opinions on this, some good some not.

What would be your suggestions guys??????????

The people who currently have this on their e's have posted that they have had problems which will likely be fixed. For me the price wasn't worth it. You still have to carry something on you why not just a key and save the money for another toy that gives more bang for the buck. To each their own, I don't think it is worth it just say look I can unlock and start my car without a key.

Skip it.

I should say it depends how much money you have to waste - if the extra $1000+ is no big deal it might provide some fun. Several posters have already had difficulty with theirs and my dealer had problems himself when he attempted a demo.

If you have little kids, I strongly suggest you NOT get it. They could, at the touch of the shifter start or stop the car all by themselves anytime you were inside or in close enough range with your key.

Why do you want to spend another $1000 if you already have the most sophisticated car-key (fob)??? Save the money and buy a good rim. Keyless go is only a waste of money. Btw, I saw some posts saying that the keyless go doesnt work properly. Do some seach about keyless go in this forum.

yea, i know it isnt really "needed" but i think it is also a fun toy...also....i dont know....but i got the impression that someone thought u had to carry somethimg else? In the 2003 e-class.....not oth models, only the e-class...they integrated the keylesgo into it...all you need to carry is the key, no card no nothing

That's even worse. Spend a grand to have the key in your pocket just so you don't have to put it into the ignition. I don't get it.

I'm with you rayscar. It seems like they can charge $1000 because no one else offers this and, at least for some, there is a 'wow' and show-off factor. The technology for this seems minimal so the price seems way out of line. Maybe I'd consider it for $200. As some of the car magazines rate things, I would classify Keyless Go as "why tech" and not "high tech".

I had an acquaintance once who stubbornly refused to lock his car or remove the key (it was a Caddy). He was just not going to concede any of his life style and enjoyment to the fear of theft. Funny thing, he never had a problem. (I know, it was a Caddy after all!!) I remember living in the 50's and early 60's with my parents in NJ and Atlanta and never locking the front door to the house.

The concept of a keyless go is actually appealling for that same reason. When they get it down to fingerprint recognition on the handle, then it will be great!!!

I believe the new BMW 7-series has a similar feature. But that really isn't a car so it doesn't count. I read somewhere that Chris Bangle (the BMW design chief that brought us the new 7) is actually a diabolical super-robot sent back to us from the future by Mercedes to kill BMW. Who agrees with me?

Just a quick FYI: this is *one* feature MB got right. You can't start the car unless you also have your foot firmly on the brake pedal (found out the hard way when I looked like a moron pushing the start-button over and over again.)

Either way, I wouldn't get it either. Save the $1k, spend it on something a tad more useful.

Responding to rrubino re BMW 7 series

Perhaps none of the new 7 owners, or the dealers for that matter, have yet figured out completely how to work the controls on the new BMW 7. If your theory is correct, maybe the 7 is really a giant transformer that would, if anyone could figure it out, be converted into a beautiful car at the touch of a .........., well, whatever!!!

When I first heard of Keyless-Go I thought it was a super option to consider. After further thinking, I don't like the thought of not having direct control and immediate feed-back for locking and unlocking the car. With the Smart Key you have that control and feed back at your command. The only benefit left is that with Keyless-Go, you don't have to place your key into or take it out of the dash, however that is an action that does not involve any effort or thought. So in the end I did not order this option since I felt there was no benefit other than the inital novelty.

thats true...but i think most owners would agree it isnt a very "usefull" option, just for your own personal liking...my mom loved the idea...she said it was new, and no other company has it..thats the main reason why we bought it
