From the quality issues/problems that I have read about in the 2001 to 2004 I would take the 05.

04 E500 has
+7 speed auto transmission
+ V8 (~300hp)
+ guarantees you a leather seating and Airmatic suspension

05 E320 has
+ 5 speed auto transmission
+ V6 (~215 hp)
+ Sport package/appearance package guarantees you leather and airmatic
+CLS stering rack (05 W211 models)
+new redesign center console and new cup holder (US cars only)

Personally if it's about the same price/miledge, I'd take an 04 E500. It should be under warranty and you can get any issues resolve. It's nice to have power.

The power difference between the two is unbelieveable. As long as you have a warranty, I would not fret about the 04'.

Having owned a 2002 E320 and trading for a 2006 E350.... the E500 (any year) is hands down a MUCH quicker car. E320 is somewhat mundane compared to the E350.. but the E500 will make ya smile more... IMHO.

Both cars you are looking into being equally in good shape... I would opt for the E500 if you desire some horsepower. If you just want an E-Class and don't care... then the E320 will be just fine and a year newer.

Also, if horsepower is not at the top... which car has more options? Color may even come into play here. Of the E500 I have seen... I would say most of them have a good amount of options with the horsepower to boot.

Good Luck and post some pics when you get it.

Take the 04 E500. Make sure all the recalls are performed and you'll be good to go.

I'd take the E500.

the changes were minimal 04/05...

the big changes came in 06/07 (face-lifted) and 03/04 ( new steering system , and glitches fix)...
