My S430 does that, especially at low bumper-to-bumper traffic speeds. Replaced tranny fluid, did nothing.

I believe this is a "feature" of the 7G tranny. Most people just learn to live with it.

MB claims to have a new DTB out for it. they consider it fixed for now. I'm waiting to see before I get another 7g.

I think I got that DTB done a while ago. My car shifts real smooth now but the 1-2 is definately the least smooth of all the gear changes.

Sometimes I feel my torque converter lockup in 2nd or 3rd gear. I wonder if that's normal.

Sorry to hijack your thread....OOPS

It isn't normal. Depending on what you feel, make sure the valve body was swapped out as well. if not, it can cause some funny feels.

Both of our E350s are fully up to date, and neither do this. The 7g E350 acceleration is one of the smoothest under WOT I have ever experienced. I cant even feel the shifting at all. But off the line sometimes I will get wheel spin and ESP will kick on.. Could that be causing this sensation for you? It is just about impossible to got WOT off the line without wheel spin on the E350.

Actually, the problem was never under acceleration, especially WOT.

To see if it does it, slow down to about 25 and then let it coast to a stop. It is the point of downshift between 2nd and 1st that the jerk occurs.

Hard 2 to 1 Downshift

Hey Guys,

I had the 7G in my 05 E500 and never felt the hard down shift and even upshift until driving the wifes 07 E550. I remember having the tranny software reflashed on the 05but it mainly due to the fact MB had updated it.

I have about 5000 miles on the E550 and am curious what I should do about these hard 1 to 2 and 2 to 1 shifts that occur usualy at light throttle loads. Just wanted to throw in my .02.

Let's here more on any software updates or MB notices, maybe the jerkiness and clunkiness is a new feature....

My E550 does not shift hard or clunk between first and second and will coast to a stop smoothly without jerking. I drove the first 1000 miles in "C" mode during the break-in period, per the owners manual instructions. I drove my '05 CDI in "S" mode from the day it was new, and it would occasionally slam hard from second to first when coasting to a stop. It was violent enough to elicit comments from my passengers. I think this "C" mode break-in is very important during the first 1000 miles on either the 5-speed or the 7-speed transmission.
