Nav Upgrade - Completed!

All -- I just finished the DVD abd Nav Upgrade in my 2003 E500 (Early build). This job was a piece cake based on all of the valuable information here and I especially appreciate the verbal coaching from John F when I had a few questions.

Worth noting here is that this was (almost) plug and play and I was quite happy to see that the DVD commands were automatically populated in the instrument cluster.

For those interested:

I bought the Euro DVD / Command unit from MBdoctor $1050; Nav from ebay for $290, and the other miscellaneous parts from MB for about $220.

One thing to note is that there are many left trunk panels and you should validate the correct one .... what is posted on the forums and many of the instructions may not fit (dont ask me how I know!)

I thought early builds were not nav ready and it would be a PITA to convert, was yours nav ready? Mine is a late build and was a piece of cake, just wondering....

Congrats and enjoy . Edward.

My eclass was one of the first one delivered in Denver in early August of 02 so for a US model anyway, mine was about as early of a build as it comes.

The good news for anyone thinking about this is that it only takes 10 seconds to open the trunk panel on the left and see / or not see the harness.

I will add that this is such a nice feature that my wife thinks she has a new car and it only cost me an extra 1500!

Again, thx to all that provide me the insight!!!

M, so what does the harness look like? I have a Aug03 build E320, and I want to also upgrade to DVD with NAV. Do you recall the model of the Euro Comand? Was it a 7039?

Does anyone know if my 6 disk CD changer will work with the Euro COMAND? I will upgrade to COMAND first then later add NAV. (depending if my 03 is pre-wired or not)

Yes it will, mine works just fine, but still cannot play MP3 discs, I use the head unit slot for that.

Cheers

Thanks Edward, do you know if I already have the NAV antenna installed? I think its part of the teleaid correct? And if I have teleaid (which i do) then I already have the antenna for NAV?

Or am I way off...

Im sure you do, you will need a splitter to connect both the nav DVD unit in the trunk and the TeleAid. There is a connector with a single female plug on each side connecting the tele aid antena cable to the actual antenna, right next to the hinge, you will need to remove it and switch it for the splitter. There is a picture of the splitter installed on this thread, it is very informative and will help you. https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...gation+install

Also, a 08/03 build is considered a late build, mine is a 07/03. I guess anything March or earlier may not be prewired, but I may be wrong.

Edward

Edward, I saw that post before, that is what inspired my question. I understand that I need the splitter. So the Teleaid and NAV use the same antenna, that is what I thought.

Thanks again.

The Cost to do that Mod would Be $$$$....To add the DVD MB Comand to a W210 would require Several items to be replaced

It can be done But it will NOT Be Cheap!

As Mbenznl (STEVE) did his W203 Estate and Sunman did it on a W203 sedan

I'm trying to get started on installing my nav drive in my 03 E500, early build.
I've got hooked up the nav drive in the trunk, my COMAND does not recognize it.
I've been told I need to rewire the MOST system in the B-Pillar, the metal pillar between the driver seat and rear driver-side seat.

Is there any clear instruction guide, especially one w/ Pics that shows me how I can access the area I need to toy with so the comand will recognize the system?
I tried pulling out the black plastic in the rear driver side left foot area, not the actual metal sill on the silver part of the car body...I hear a click noise when i try to do it and i'm afraid I'm going to snap it so i haven't pulled anything off my car yet.

I'm supposing i dont need to take out the door sill? it sounds like glue is peeling off when I try to take it off
any help is EXTREMELY appreciated as nav would be fantastic for an idiot like myself.
