Engine run in

Hi all
I've just got my 07 E200 kompressor.
From the manual, it states not to rev hard during the first 1500km.
Is there any damage done if I keep redlining it?
Please give your inputs.
Thank you.

OK, before somebody rips him a new one because he's not following the instructions in his manual - keep in mind that he's got a 1.8 litre four-banger trying to haul his E-class around. I would probably redline it too if I had an engine that small, new or not. So what is the danger of high revs in a new engine, exactly? Is it the (theoretical) tiny bits of engine casting metal in the sump getting into the cylinder bores and causing damage at high RPM?

You also want to make sure the piston rings seat nicely in the cylinders so that there is no scratching to the walls which will allow loss of compression too soon.

There are many many parts "working together" for the 1st time and they need to learn to mesh as gently as possible for a short time.

With all the "miles" he will accumulate on the car, a short break-in isnt a big request by a manufacturer.

I`ve driven a E200 K. and it`s absolutely NOT necessary to redline it. The kompressor gives you relatively much torque at low rpm`s. Important to always follow instructions given by the manufacturer. It doesnt matter if it`s a "4 banger", there are pistons and cylinders in this engine too.
