hi all!
its been awhile as i was left unenthused for a few yrs with a cluster#$%^ of problems with my my04 e500 4matic ( see sig- which will change).
from drive dynamic seats that worked when they felt like, to leaky rear window, to 48 days in shop over 2.5 yr period thru fault of car, dealer, manufacturer, and assorted funny and sad stories...............it wasnt the mb experience one would hope for.
my dealer and mb really stepped to the plate and got me out of old car and into a 07 ...........e550 4matic , black, black, sport, pano, p2, parktronic, trunk closer, wood wheel, at a price i couldnt refuse.

but as good as the price was, i was hesitant to pull the trigger to get into a car that could easily prove to be as big a disappointment as prior ride.

now 12 hrs later....................WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it seems to be a totally different car from last one. improvements abound or at least seem like tons of improvements.

POWER YOWSER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EXTRA PONIES SURE DO WONDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
steering ratio, 18 inch wheels, recalibrated suspension...........whatever it is , feels great.

trim items on interior like the little chrome strips on console that are there to prevent separation as my old console was starting to suffer from.......

not seeing the glare of center grille in windshield was a pleasure.

did they do anything to improve the hk stereo...............cuz it sounds alot better...................ANYONE KNOW ABOUT THIS????

the antennae looks better, i like the wheels better, the facelift is like dating one of the other sisters from a family with hot daughters,,,,,,,,,,,different but familiar and nice.......................

ok, get the point................i am excited again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks to benz and my dealer for doing right by me, and mb for listening to all our small gripes.................i see a much improved version of the w211 over the model run..........

of course fingers need to be crossed that reliability will keep me this pumped!!

I'm glad for you! I've been watching the boards here & the number of problems being reported here on 07s has been virtually non existant. It seems like MB really did address the E Class problems. Last I heard mine was due in by Feb 21st or so.

I was wondering how you made out. Hopefully, I will be jumping for joy soon enough. Its been a long road... and driving around in a '96 Chevy Corsica with 105,000 on the clock is not rewarding in the least.

Why did you get such a long lead time? I first looked at the E class in early November, and was able to get "dealer stock" order changed to my likes on 11/26. The car was here a month later.

I'm sure you will love it when it finally arrives. Great choice of colors!

 

I don't know why so long, especially since I was told it was going to be "pushed along" for me. ...but I notice that there are far more 350s on the lots than 550's so maybe they weren't building the 550s right along? or maybe there was a delay in getting something I ordered to the assembly line. It has been a long time, especially since the dealer took my '04 in trade in late October (so that the offered/accepted price for it wouldn't change due to increased depreciation due to time & a new calendar year passing. Also so there was no chance of any damage happening to the '04) Also, more electrical options were failing on a random basis requiring a 3 to 10 day stay at the service department every other week. (The car was possesed!) I think the order went into the system (either by changing a stock order or as new,) in the 1st week of November.

As anxious as I am to get into the new one, it is offset by not wanting an early build '07. I had an early build '04 (11/03), and I suppose I'm gun shy & superstitious now. (Even tho they've been building the same model since late '02, and should know how to build it!) Hopefully, soon, I too will joing the ranks of you who have been happy with their 211's. I'd like nothing better! Yeah, its been a long time.

Great to hear the MKII W211 is reliable so far. We're going from a problematic '04 to an '07 as well and its nice to know we might not be encountering as many problems.

Did you notice any changes to the air suspension??

 

To answer a few..............

1- next model change is in 2009 and will most likely be a 2010my car according to manager and owner of a large mb network. i would never buy a 1st yr run from mb , so by 2011 i'll be ready to get rid of my 07. i say, go for it.


2-will post pics soon

3-air suspension seems greatly improved. better rebound and dampening or whatever the real terms are, it feels great over several common roads travelled in both cars.

4-in one day i averaged 17.4 mpg ( no hwys) aftr havin more fun than usual........driving same basic loop that i always averaged 15.6 mpg driving alot mellower............

i just went from an '04 320 to an '07 350, and completely agree with brlazar2. Although I have not had any major problems with the my 320, the new one (surprisingly) feels a lot more powerful and fun to drive. Before I got the 350, I had an order for a 530i, and had my mb dealer not made me an offer I couldn't refuse, I'd be driving a bimmer now. I'm glad it went down this way. I just hope it remains trouble-free for the next couple of years...
