Question about this picture of the rear of a 2004 wagon...
Hey fellas. Here's a picture of a wagon I'm looking to buy. Notice that on the rear driver-side of the back storage area has a storage nook with a net. Other wagons don't have this storage nook--instead they have a cover there. Why is this? What else can go there?

Does one have navigation and the other not have navigation? I believe that's where the DVD drive for navigation goes. My non-navigation sedan has the same nook (with no net).

All things being equal, the more loaded one will be much more fun. Are they from a private dealer or an MB dealers used car dept. Have you checked the carfax, have you asked an MB dealer to pull their service records up on his computer & tell you what he sees?

i believe that the large storage area when the third row is used. This way, you can store things out of sight and still have kids sitting back there. maybe, the owner lost the storage thingy??
as for the side storage with net, i think the nav used up that place.
also for your info, there is a storage net on the front passenger side center console when the car is not 4matic.

The plastic storage box should be installed with its opening toward the front of the car. The carpeted side should face the rear. This is a hidden compartment that can be accessed by folding the second seat forward.

the sunshade comes in the sunroof option (sunroof package on '04) on the wagon. while it is true that the previous owner might have bought the shade after delivery, he would have to buy the door panel with the cutout to accommodate the shade. the cost would be too much.

or do you mean the cargo shade? that is a standard feature on the wagon. it is on rails on the back pillar of the wagon so when you open the hatch, it rises along the rails and when you close the hatch, it goes down to cover the cargo area. is this the rear shade you refer to?

I don't know what you mean by the fifth door. there is no sunshade on the hatch window. they are use in the rear two doors (i hope i understood your question).

Saw the wagon today and it seems very clean, I don't understand all the controls for the vented seats and lumbar stuff...
If it has 54k miles, when's the next service due and how much should I expect to pay?

Thanks for the clarification. I was indeed referring to the shades on the rear doors, not to to the rear hatch).

however, since you will be buying it "previously enjoyed," i would recommend have all the fluid change so at least you know the starting point of the car.

However, we also have a net on the rear right-hand side, directly opposite the left-hand one shown. What option is our car missing that would go in place of our right-hand netting?

FWIW
In October, I purchased an 04 wagon with Nav, Sunroof, Sound package, Keyless Go and the Phone with voice command...had 47K miles, was MB CPO and bought from a local MB dealer...The car was a local trade and I talked to the original owner... Paid 29K and bought an additional aftermarket 48 mo 48K mile for about $2,500...
Make sure you get a VMI for the car and take it to a MB indie mechanic...Make sure he does a "short test" for you...this will help determine the current state of the car and all it's systems...
Steer clear of a car that has had numerous electrical warranty repairs...My car had a few minor repairs and the recalls and TSB's done...but other than that a clean car.
Be weary of some broker cars...they are usually bought at auction...which ususally means the car sat somewhere for a while...Check the car fax and note the times and miles at each change of ownership...
Regarding the questions on the rear...The left side of the car houses the nav and satelite modules...the right side has the H/K subwoofer... The storage compartment openings face the front of the car...Access for it is by folding down the back seats...The storage compartment is generally for the storing the cargo system components, but can be used for other stuff as well...I have mine out of the car.
Look thru the forum...there is a link for an on line interactive owner's manual...it is for a EU delivered car, but it has most of the info for features found in your car...
Good luck! There are not alot of Wagon owners out there, but I love it more that my SUV...I get 27 MPG on the highway and my daughter loves the third seat in back

Ahah... I don't have Logic7, so no HK subwoofer. I can only presume that the stock subwoofer (IF there is one) must be much smaller (if my wagon has that extra storage space [that a wagon with the HK subwoofer does not]).
