02 CLK 320
New Here: Thinking of 03 E500 ??

I've been lurking for a while here and you guys have a lot of great info here. So I've got an 02 CLK 320 coupe (silver/ash) that I've tricked out pretty nicely and finally paid for and I'm looking for a second Benz and am considering an E500. My price range (about 35K) kind of confines me to the 03's and I found a nice piece with 67K miles on it and it has the Sport package to boot. Is this high mileage for this car and what are some things I should be looking out for. I know the charcoal cylinders need to be replaced at about 60K and this has been done. Further, on the computer it says Service E due in 12,xxx miles. How major is this service? My CLK only has a Service A and B so I am going to have to do some research on the service intervals. I love the looks of the E500 and it delivers power to the road much more forcefully than my CLK...but I guess that's two more cylinders. Thanks in advance for any input. I am hot on this car I found today mainly because it has the Sport package and I don't see too many of those around; plus it has the keyless go which is cool. Thanks again...Al in Denver

For the price, you should be able to easily find a 04 with about 45-50K miles. The 04s already come with the COMAND head unit, which is a far superior unit to the crappy Audio50 on the 03s, not to mention a very easy upgrade path to navigation and the ability to play MP3s. I've read that since the 03 is a first model year, some stuff goes wrong with them, but other than a BCM, mine has been trouble free. For 35 grand, you should definetly pass on the 03, not a good price and too many miles. My $.02.

Cheers

Edward

I'm with Edward. If your budget is 35K you can EASILY find a 2004 E500 with 30-50K miles and most likely still under warranty. If you negotiate properly you can find a 2004 E500 for closer to 31-33K. If you have a few thousand more, you can actually find a 2005 E500. For about 38-42K you can buy a loaded 2005 E500 and with 4Matic! Go with these figures when you negotiate and disregard the "asking price."

Don't pay 35K for a 2003 with 67K miles! I'm not sure if it's worth even 30K. I'd stay away from the 2003s if I were you.

Good luck! Feel free to check the price with us before signing the dotted line.

hahaha, last month (roughly) we were in the market for an 03 e500 for my sister, at the dealership we talked them down to $28,900, than the next day my father got him all the way down to $27,500 for an 03 e500 with 43,000 miles, most options at that.

keep this in mind, those cars are sitting on there hands they will do anything to get rid of them, there just taking up space in there lot, and let them know that you know this.

02 CLK 320
Thanks guys. Actually I should have been more specific and said the price was actually $27,900 for the car...it's on the lot for that price, which would put me in around 30K with taxes, etc. I was up late last night looking at posts/threads and I am now pretty hesitant about the 2003 cars.

go for it homeboy, as long as theres a warrant your fine, btw if its listed for $27,900, offer him 24,500 take it or leave it, just pressure him, and if he dosnt meet it find your negotiating median which should not be much more than that.
BTW, the guy at the dealership called my pops the other day saying that he could go even lower on the price if were still interested, just go's to show you that they cant move these cars
