What to do with a new Benz?

What should we check when picking up at the dealer?
What is required to break it in?
Standard carpeted mats or rubber mats(bad weather protection)?
Wait to apply first waxing(and what wax)?
Anyone know about the 3M clearcoat protection?
Anyone know a good place to buy the AMG wheels that are standard on the "cure the cancer" AMG SE E350?

Oh yeah, do they use synthetic oil? Should oil be changed at shorter intervals than specified by MB?

No flame here, but all of your questions have been answered on the forum previously. Even some you haven't thought of yet. While you are waiting to take delivery it might be a good idea to read up on the car on this forum. GL and enjoy it once you have it.

It's the 21st century--of course they use synthetic oil.

Change it as Mercedes suggests--no one here knows more than they do.

Actually, if you're buying the car to keep for a while, you're better off changing the oil somewhere between the 500-1000 mile mark, and NOT waiting until 12,000 miles like Mercedes suggests.

Not true AND a waste of money. Maybe, just maybe at the 1st 5,000 miles, but for non abusive driving 12 thousand miles or 1 year on synthetic is perfectly ok. It can't hurt, but it is way premature for synthetic, so why throw away your money?

Take the time to INSPECT the car INSIDE and Out

Just drive it normal..then a oil change WITH a Oil test @1/3K

Since you are Back east go for the MB Rubber Mats..

Do the 3M film..www.clearbra.com shop around and find a GREAT Installer!

Try www.showcargarage.com and or autopia.com LOTS of detail info

Ebay or the dealer for the AMG rims..stay AWAY from Chrome rims!

If you can back out of the deal and buy something more reliable. My E class and S Class has been horrendous in reliability. So much so that the salesman continously appologizes and sends me coupons all the time. Check the forums and you will see all the TRANNY and BRAKE problems. My car a 2003 has had the engine mount, radiator, tranny, torque converter, and suspension all changed. My fathers S class has rust problems and MB has paid over $10,000cdn in rust repairs already and the body shop already has advised me to sell the car because the S-Class has rust problems along with the newer c-class from what I have been told. I am at the dealership atleast once a month and talking to other customers in the service area they are having alot of problems also maybe not as serious as mine but many have complained that "it will be the last mercedes that they buy"

thats just your experience. I have yet to have any problems with my mercedes vehicles. not to mention, you seem to have very few posts, so i find your post a bit hard to believe.

i mean lets face it, every car has problems, some more than others. However, I have yet to experience a problem which would make me consider any other marque out there.

Understand that many early W211's have been less than stellar. But before you get panicked at the advice to get out while the getting is good . . . I'll just chime in and say my 2006 E350W4 has been totally flawless. Delivered MAY05, 22,000 miles thus far. I did first oil change at 5,000 miles as we were leaving for a long trip. Took it West for visit family over this past Christmas --as far west as Denver-- 4,200 miles, 25.4mpg, cruising mostly at 70mph.

I have owned "bricks" for many, many years despite what comsumers retort has to say, we have had excellent reliability and performance in all of them. I hope that continues with our first benz.

MB only uses Mobil 1 and synthetic oil in all its cars. I wasn't aware of the change to 5W-40 though in non AMG cars.

They wont run regular oil in any of their engines after the lovely lawsuit from a few years ago.

New E350---
I never drive a new MB hard the first 1000 miles. Other than that, I have always followed MB recommendations for oil change etc. A few problems over the years but nothing that has ever been because anything I have done. I have never had any issue related to oil.

I realize I may at the opposite end of the spectrum of these forums... but my advice is to relax and enjoy your new car.

We at the dealer are only required to run synthetic in all 98 and up models.
Although we do have a limited amount of customers who insist on regular (non-synthetic) oil and changes at 3k.
We have a special form for them to sign at that time however, saying that is what they requested even after being advised to use the synthetic.
As far as the change to 5w40 we recieved the bulletin from MBUSA on it sometime last year.

Gotta throw the BS flag on that - you mean like the "never change the transmission fluid" transmission? Follow that guideline and you'll be doling out the cash for a rebuilt or blown transmission, just a matter of time...

I gotta back "rieger" MB's ain't what they used to be and his issue on brakes is totally valid - to the best of my knowledge, MB quit the SBC brakes on their '07 models due to ALL kinds of problems, most notably the lack of ANY brakes...do a search.

What lawsuit about the oil change? I have not heard about that. As yet, how will it not run if it was on fossil oil instead of synthetic oil? I kind of find it skeptical with that remark unless there is sciencetifically proven fact,: not speculation based on those remarks or difference of opinion
