Question E or R Class CDi

I have a pending deal for a new R CDI but wanted to get a poll of opinions on whether you think I should keep the E w I6 CDI engine vs. switching to the R with V6 CDI engine. There are pros and cons to both decisions for me but wanted to just get a general feeling about what others think.

Current 06 E has: Premium Pkg, Wood Steering Whl, Rear Seat Pkg, Xenon Lights, Parktronic, Voice Activated & Hands Free Comm System, Phone System, Heated Fr. Seats.

07 R 320 CDI is coming with P2 Pkg, Heated Fr. Seats. Other

For those who know the differences in these two vehicles, I would appreciate your opinion.

Thanks MBers!

There is no question in my mind that the E class is a far superior vehicle in every respect except for cargo capacity (which would be rectified with an E wagon) and the lack of 4matic (if you need it). In terms of quality, driving dynamics, and engineering, the R cannot compete.

Thank you Unterturkheim....I respect your opinion especially with a name like Unterturkheim! I am leaning towards keeping my E. I do like it very much and enjoy driving it. I like my I 6 and rear wheel drive and the better economy with the E. Thank you again for your input.

cdisam, if passenger space is not an issue for you... then you are better served with an E. To be honest, the R class front is perhaps the ugliest MB has ever designed... for that only reason I would drop the R. However, I was shocked it drove as smooth as an S class... Now, if you disagree on its front styling and you are a large (5+) family, by all means get an R.

I would disagree with Untertrükheim... quality is an issue with the E much more so than with the R.

Keep in mind also that the R Class is made in the Alabama factory, which is notorious for quality control problems. Just check the GL and ML forums, ask anyone who has any ML truck, walk through a cheap import used car lot, or check KBB for poor resale values!
