2003 E320 Motor Mounts

My 2003 E320 has 135,000 miles on it and I just had to replace the motor mounts for the second time. They were replaced the first time under the extended warranty at about 95,000 miles. MB also checked the transmission mount and said that it was still OK.

Any ideas as to why a set of motor mounts would only last 40,000 miles? I drive a lot, but mostly highway mileage with the usual stop and go traffic on Route 80.

The service advisor said that I must be accelerating hard too often for them to need replacing that often. I don't, so I'm at a loss.

Motor Mounts

I do not have an answer. Torque is what normally breaks them, lots of hard downshifting and rapid starts. I have had service people tell me (on other cars) that frequently the back ones are broken as well and replacing only the fronts causes pre-mature failure.
I am very interested in your experience with the car as I have the same model and year. You are definitely the person with the most mileage that I have run into. Would you care to give me (us) some information about the service history and expendable parts (tires, pads, batteries) etc. ? Are you the original owner?

Repair History

I am the original owner. I purchased the car in February of 2003.

This is the best car I have ever owned. It is still rattle free and drives like new. Since the bulk of my mileage is highway, the first set of brakes lasted over 70,000 miles. The tires (Michelin) last about 60,000 miles per set with regular (every 15,000 miles) rotating.

The only unusual (IMHO) repairs have been the motor mounts and the ball joints on the passenger side. The ball join repair may have been related to a auto-deer accident.

I highly recommend Steve from mbenznl.com for any custom work. I love the navigation, sirius satellite and the european style mirrors.

Best of luck with your car.
