Waht about a German ECU?

Is it possible to just swap an American ECU for the European ? I don't know what all the other differences are, but at least it has no speed restriction. I do know that they are different part numbers.

Different emissions standards, and different octane gas availabilities too. Probably many different sensors too.

There may be several variances, but I think the only one that would matter is that the Euro chip will not have allowances programed for running on US regular fuel (in an emergency).

All german cars have limiters of 155mph on them.. With the exception of Porsche. So BMW, MB, Audi all have 155 mph limiters on them. If you want to go faster than 155mph you need to do a custom ECU from a tuner. But then again an E350 probably only has enough power to hit 160-165mph. An M3 will only hit 168-175mph, look a porsche with no limiter you are still only to hit 170ish and they have about the same coefficient of drag and horsepower as an E350(of course the weight diffrence makes the acceleration speed different) . It takes a lot of power to go fast.. So is it worth it to spend $1,200 to be able to get 10mph-15 mph faster?

The speed rating of the OEM tires is an "arbitrary number"?

I didn't use the quoted words. I like to drive too, but I don't delude myself that my reaction speed or eyesight is up to driving at 130 MPH.

I have an E500 too. I don't have to drive it at twice the speed limit to enjoy it. Competition driving courses teach you how to drive fast on the track; no amount of competition driving training will make driving at 130 MPH on a public road anything but reckless. I shouldn't have to point that out in a Mercedes forum.
The speed rating of the OEM tire is not arbitrary, it is based on the highest speed the tires can be run before risking failure. Wow, DWP, it is really telling that you are from Sacramento. You liberals wouldn't know freedom or personal responsibility if it hit you in the face. You peoples' blind faith and trust in government and bureaucrats to over-regulate everything is a cancer. You have no idea of the price we pay for giving up individual freedoms every day- It is called Liberty and there is a shortage of it in Kalifornia.
