drained wrong fluid by mistage, don't know how or where to refill

Hi everyone,

There is a 5mm allen drain plug right behind the transmission on an 04 e500 4matic. I will spare details to preserve the rest of my dignity but I have drained that fluid by accident.

1. Is this the transfer case?
2. What goes in it?
3. How do i refill it?

Tom.

that fluid you drained with a 5mm hex is the transmission fluid. depending on which tranny you have, it fills via the dipstick tube on top that has a lock on it or bottom (7g tronic) with a special filling adapter.

If I were you, I'd have the car loaded on a rollback truck and carried to a real mechanic.

That is the sort of question you do not want to be asking if you intend to do it yourself.

The fluid is checked with a factory dipstick took. There is a procedure for it and the car has to be warm. Not the engine but the transmission to get an accurate reading.

Tool, not took, of course.

Nevertheless, I wouldn't start the engine until I'd replaced at least some of the fluid.

Again, best bet is to have car hauled to a real mechanic.
