Upgrading my E320 Headlight bulbs
Hello Everyone I am trying to upgrade my headlight bulbs to PIAA since my e320 does not have the xenon lights or I think they don't they have a round blue circle around the bulb but I don't know if they are xenon. Sorry I am new to this, but I was wondering if I can upgrade to PIAA bulbs or sylvania if so how can i do the installation my self. Thank you for you help.
P.S. I don't have my manual lost it....

You can get a new manual from your dealer or by calling 1.800.for.merc.
Get European Osram Silverstar or equivalent--PIAA are simply hype.

if you want true performance, then go w/ HID.

Another alternative to PIAA headlight bulbs are Hoen. http://www.hoen-usa.com/contact.htm Good stuff and won't cost as much as PIAA

There is a swarm of people on this board who want the dealer to perform ALL
maintenance. I don't think bulbs are a warranty item. I replaced the factory bulbs in my E320 with Sylvania Silverstars. About 4000K I think. I compared them the factory HID in my Maxima. They are an improvement (especially for the burned out one) but they do not match the HID for spread and intensity.
Still for $30 they are worth the effort. If you raise the hood, there is a black bezel around each light socket. It has two horizontal raised stripes repeated continuously around it to engage a screwdrive blade if it is stuck. There is a flexible membrane stretched across the bezel like a drumskin. It is a snug area and removing a small screw from the radiator can mount will allow you to pry up the expansion pin (all plastic) and move the can aside for better access to the driver side. The passenger side has more room. Rotate the bezel counterclockwise and hold on to it. The lamp socket may fall out but if not, pay attention to its orientation. It only goes in one way. It is a small stainless stamped part. I do not remember having to disconnect the connectors from the wiring harness. Wear cotton gloves when handling the new lamps. It takes about 10 minutes for the easy side and 15 for the driver.
I don't know anything about the PIAA lamps but the Sylvania bulbs are made in Germany. I have been well pleased, no alarms, no flickering, no resistors, a fairly white light, better visibility but still inferior to HID. Since I don't drink coffee and "chat" in awaiting room is not my idea of entertainment, I will continue to exercise my talents when I can. Good Luck.
