Wagon Suspension Question

I know the wagons have a hydropneumatic rear suspension, but how does it operate? I've noticed that if I do not drive the car for a week or so (we use it for trips and sometimes on the weekend...) the back end is about level or perhaps a little lower than level with the front. After driving the car for a while, I stopped at the mall and about an hour later, I noticed the rear of the car was up a little bit...Does the suspension "boost" the rear end up after you've driven it awhile?

I know my wifes Suburban does just that...

Anyone know?

Do you mean Airmatic? I have that on my [S211] and when the car has been sitting for a while the back does look lower, but will level out after you start driving.

The hydropneumatic system is no longer used (I have it on my SEC and SL). If you have a T211, your car has airmatic. If it's an 8 cyl, you have full airmatic on every wheel, if you have a 6 cyl, it's only level control for the back. There is a pump on the engine and there are level sensors on the shocks, so the system will pressurise once you start the car and adjust the level accordingly.

2004 E320 Wagon
I see that this is an old post, but, the question by white wagon is basically the same one I have. I have an 04 E320 wagon, not 4matic, and NOT Airmatic. It is my understanding that all E320 wagons have a rear self-leveling feature that is pneumatic, powered by a pump, etc...It is only on the rear and it is not the same as Airmatic which is front and rear. This is a standard feature, Airmatic is an option.

So does anyone know what the sensors are that control this? My wagons rear end just decided to drop, both sides, when it was put in park after driving it. (One rear air bag was recently replaced by the previous owner. ) I turned the car on, bounced on the rear, and it raised itself up and it has stayed that way. I think it is some sensor acting wacky.

Does anyone have information on this that can help?
