Here is a service description for the ticking sound that happened on another MB:
"Exam revealed collapse lifter's), checked for oil delivery exam revealed low delivery reaching intake elements on right bank due to restrictions in cam bearing bridge. R&R right camshaft bearing bridge and replace all hydraulic compensators (6) on right (intake) side. Cleaned oil passage and verified proper oil flow."

Your response makes a lot of sense that it's related to proper delivery of oil, since I only hear these noises when I'm accelerating (requesting a higher pressure of oil to be circulated).

I know there was an earlier thread on this, but has anyone else noticed this admittedly soft pinging sound when accelerating as E500? I've ask the local (Cincinnati) dealership about this, and really didn''t get an answer other than "maybe the car hadn't been serviced yet" (it was a Sport).
Well, a week later I went back to test drive one again, drove the very same Sport edition, and heard the very same noise.
Is there a problem here that we should know about?

How do you knowthat the sound comes from the engine or better yet-from inside the engine itself? did you open hood did you put your ear next tothe freaking block and heard the sound coming from the inside of the engine? i doubt it.

Check your brake cable!!, it might get loose and touch the driveshaft, the more you accelerate the more sound it make. Try to hold your hand on the gear knob, does it feel like tickling??
The dealer can easily fix this, good luck

I've made this comment before. If you lift the hood, rev the engine while it is in park you should be able to recreate the noise. If the engine doesn't make the noise when you are reving it then the problem is something else. IMHO

If the E500 has dual exhuast system and a cross over pipe , that can sometimes be a cause of ticking on acceleration. I would look at the manifold/cat/hanger springs of the front part of exhaust system too.

Easy justin, maybe I was not thinking clearly... My thought was that maybe I did not detect it on my short demo ride and that those who already own the car and are driving it everyday are noticing it.

justin, i dont want to argue with you of course, but im saying when we test drove the car, i was especially listening to the noise of everything....all i could hear was the tires, this is why we are buying this car, because we want to get a very quiet car
