Thinking of getting a 05 E320 CDI, help
What a great idea. Let's just pave it all over and build Mc Mansions and condos.
The motor car is viewed as a golden goose. They fleece motorists to the limits of their tolerance in gas prices, number plate stickers and the infamous Value Added Tax (VAT).
Americans have to stand on guard for their values. Do not let these evil ideas take root in the Land of the Free.
Wonderful car! High thirties on the highway at around 75 mph cruising. It's so smooth, you just have to use cruise. Otherwise you are doing > 90 and not realizing how fast you are going! (Very smooth at 100, but don't tell my wife - it's her car.)
Also like listening to BBC on long trips with the lifetime Sirius radio the previous owner had purchased. The only extra it does not have is Sat-Nav. I can add it for $350. Is it worth it?
Anything to watch out for? Will I experience a ton of maintenance issues? Do you love yours?
TIA

I own a 2006 e320 CDI w/ 127k miles. The headliner fell apart, the fuel sending unit leaked and was replaced, the serpentine belt was replaced. Check engine light tested and indicates glow plugs are needed. Runs fine as is so I ignore it. Needs idler arms replaced. Avg fuel econ last 35k miles is 27mpg. mixed driving. Also had normal maintenance items; brakes, wipers, oil changes. All by non dealer shops. However had tranny oil change at the dealer cost me over $500!
Overall a good but complex car. If you are the type that will rely on the dealer for all repairs it will break you. Independent garages and non dealer parts sources are the only way to maintain these cars within reasonable costs. However some repairs must be done at the dealer, like SBC brakes, electical/computer issues and certain engine/tranny work, etc. So you live in fear that you will have a breakdown that must be repaired at a dealer for thousands of dollars. I have not had such a repair but ......I do live in fear. If you can, buy it.
