cost of vehicles

I'm trying to get a feel for what everyone is paying for their E320 or E500 including all options (not including sales+lux tax). The reason is that I am considering a pretty loaded vehicle (~$61K if I go with E320 and ~$66K ifI go with E500). A bunch of dealers have made a comment that if I don't take the car, they will have a hard time selling it since it is so loaded...a couple of dealers have said that they have not seen any cars coming this loaded.

Just wanted to get some opinions on that. I saw Beltfed's sticker at about $65K (around what I'm thinking), but then I also saw bmms8's comment that it looked expensive...so I'm not sure what to make of that.

My E500 with all options will sticker at $60,675 before gas guzzler and luxury taxes. But, there will be three additions for dealer installed accessories, not available until after initial delivery: the navigation, the voice activated V60 phone and the wood steering wheel. With all that added the total sticker before luxury tax and gas guzzler tax will be about $65,700. The options include: E1, E2, E4, Active Ventilated seats, rear side window roller blinds, power rear window sunshade, CD changer.

dealer's comment

if you don't take this loaded car then your dealer does have a problem to sell it -- dealer has to give a BIG discount on this fully loaded car for a buyer, especially you didn't pick up a popular color.

usually, if you don't want this ordered car, it highly possible becomes a lease car. most of people who lease cars only want to pay the lower monthly payment.

I don't think it is so much whether or not the car is 'loaded' as much as how likely someone coming into the dealer would be willing to buy your custom version from their stock. They would also probably have a hard time selling a Green car with no options at all for the same reason. For the cars they just order, they like to stick to the popular colors and options including a sun roor, CD changer and the like and stay away from drive dynamic/multicontours, distronic, parktronic etc. Once someone starts asking for a lot of those, they generally want the car exactly 'their' way and pre-order.

What are your options specifically?

Options:
Parktronic
E4 (split seats)
E5 (heated seats/wheel)
wood wheel
comand/navi
multicontour seats
panorama roof
tire pressure monitor
active suspension
power rear shade
rear side shade
4 zone climate control
HK stereo
CD changer
keyless go

These options on an E320 make the car around $61K
and on an E500 (+gas guzzler tax) is about $66K.

I think I am going to decide on the E500 because the dealers have told me that most E320 are loaded to sell around $54-55K and E500's are loaded to sell around $62-64K. If that is the case, it seems like a $66K E500 may actually become a better value down the line (when I sell) then the $61K E320.

In general I think you are right in that all of the options would tend to not hold their value as well as the more basic vehicles. On the other hand, depending on how long you plan to keep the car, realize that the E500 will probably tend to lose value quicker than the E320 and after the 4th year or so they will both sell for close to the same price. Just check out Edmunds.com or similar and compare older E320s versus E430s and you'll see the price differential fades over time.

Agreed. You can verify this at LeaseCompare.com to view what the residual values they are offering for both of these '03 vehicles.
