I connect mine through the AUX jack located inside the glove compartment. Works like a charm. Get yourself a good cable to connect, not one of those cheap ones. It will help you get better connectivity. The glove compartment is kept closed once you plug in, with only the cable hanging out. When I exit the vehicle, I take the iPod with me.

2003 E500, Sport, Nav, Pano, HK
I have a 2003 E500 with the 2004 electronics--COMAND with NAV and HK sound system--one of the "replacement cars" for the US market. The IPOD kit works just fine in it. Dealer said it would not work, but it does. Shows tunes, etc in MFD. Controls for the IPOD are in the steering column. You lose the AUX input and the IPOD gets wired in the glove box. No problem. Great solution. A little expensive, but works great.

.... nothing to brag about, it is a previous model....
About little over $200 from dealer. So you can control ipod from your steerling wheel etc.
ebay might have for little cheaper.
