Obsession with Electric Rear Roller blinds?

I'm not having a go at anyone but what's with the obsession of the electric rear roller blinds? I've been biting my tongue for a while here, but I've just had to ask the question. I've noticed that all/most Americans have ordered their E's with it.
There are so many other options you could get that are more useful or better for the same amount of money so why choose that? Are you really that concerned about the rear passengers getting sun on them? Is it because it's a gimmick in the car? I really don’t get it.

In my opinion, the rear sunshade will help protecting the interior of your car (especially the leather). I have cars with & without it. I think that the protection is there. The weather in California in the summer can be extremely hot depending on the region.

May be it is just a fad. To me it is an added protection for my car from mother nature.

Its nice on a very sunny hot day, it cuts down on the glare and adds another button .....anyway its $400, why not.

I got it because I have two children and it will help keep the sun off them. It will be much better than those stick on shields for children. It will also help keep the car cooler while parked and is lots cheaper than solar panels.

hehe..i got them on my car, and they are awesome! it gives the car another classy look.

and when you see people admiring your car, it pleases them even more if you raise the rolor blind in the back. great to keep the light out too. i usually have my side blinds rolled up to keep eager eyes from looking into my back seats.
