Shaking from car at idle
Hi all... I have a 2004 E500 and am having a slight problem:
Here are the facts:
92k miles
No warranty
No loss of power
When it comes to a stop, the car sounds and feels as though it is misfiringabout every 15-20 seconds.
This is ONLY at idle, the car is smooth through the powerband all the way up to redline.
Any suggestions, and I don't want to take it to the dealer.
OBD II not reporting any codes.

What grade of gasoline do you pump? 91 octane minimum is needed.

BMW FTW
Change your plugs, and if that does not fix it check your engine mounts. Mercedes seems to use low quality mounts my last mercedes I had 45k miles on it and needed them replaced and they also replaced the transmission mounts and the car was as smooth as butter again.

92K... I would bet money you could use a set of spark plugs and a few plug wires. With the SDS, you could pin point which cylinder is running irregularly to determine which cables you might need to replace.
I wouldn't waste my time with the airmass. Engine mounts are more likely to be worn out with that kind of mileage.

all services have been done as per mb spec. my project this week is to replace:
1. motor mounts
2. tranny mounts
3. MAF
4. EGR valve
The car is due for all these anyway as preventative. i dont want to wait for hem to go out. i may do the fuel pump to for the hell of it.
I changed out the plugs when i first noticed this as i suspected that was the problem. i always pump 91 octane in the car.

The EGR valve may be binding exceeding the set point. You do not say if you replaced it yet or if the problem persists after changing it. Also, look into a software update for the engine control unit (ECU).

Update: My mechanic called me this evening and told me that an igniter was fried.
He doesn't speak very good English but I am hoping that whatever he does it will be fixed once and for all!
Will update you when I get the car back.

DONE AND DONE! Just got my car back from the shop yesterday! All the problems are gone! He said that there was a misfire from the igniter in Cylinder 1.
The best news, he only charged me $250 to fix it!
