Airmatic: fender/tire gap
I have a late 2003 E320 Sport with Airmatic.
My warranty is up in about 250 miles so I am on the look out for potential issues.
I measured the gap between the bottom of the fender and the top of the tire, and the front right hand side gap is smaller (car is lower) than on the front left hand side. It's about a 1/4 inch difference.
This is with the car engine off, or with the engine running and suspension in normal position, or raised.
Maybe I'm being too picky, but anyone else with Airmatic notice this?
The car drives great and in a straight line.

Yes WE are too picky.
I mentioned to my SA the same things and the answer was that, when the car sits,..even idles , it does not have to be even at all.Different times the car leans different sides (and i noticed it too)

You could have a slow leak in one of the air bladders located in the center of the strut. I had this happen under warranty so I can'nt say how costly it is. I can say it gradually gets worse until it happens with the car on also.

Car is fine. Measure it on different days on different street surfaces. You won't get the same measurements twice. I even had mine lowered and leveled out by an MB tech at the dealer on an alignment machine - it will never sit perfectly level, too many factors. You should take it in for it's final checkup though.

Blah...stupid characteristics of the airmatic, which is normal. I always hated seeing my car lopsided whenever it was parked. Even lowering with washers or via STAR diag didn't fix this. My Renntech ELM cured this and she is sitting evenly....nice and tucked away!
